First of all, I’d like to applaud Ron Weasley for facing his fear of spiders in this book. The poor guy gets into trouble solely because he chose to befriend Harry; that’s loyalty right there! On the other hand, there’s Ginny, who is unnervingly relatable (we shall not discuss my high school diaries, please and thank you). However, while rereading this book and knowing about all that is yet about to go down in the story, the second instalment of the series feels a bit like those filler episodes in tv shows. Nevertheless, I enjoyed being back in the wizarding world. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5 out of 5 stars) for me! 🪄

Audiobook - 9 hours 39 minutes - Again, very hard to put a rating on any books in this series. Trying to be completely objective, this is a really well-written book. The characters are likeable and the plot very engaging. It is better than the movie, which I was remembering more clearly so I enjoyed the book more than I was remembering.

This is the weakest book of the seven imo, but still a very enjoyable one.

- Plot conveniences. They are abundant in this one
- "I'll be in my bedroom, making no noise and pretending I'm not there" man I hate the Dursleys so much
- Harry trying to scare Dudley with his fake spells
- Harry spending his birthday alone :(( someone hug this boy please
- Arthur Weasley. must be protected. at. all. costs.
- Ron and Harry missed the train so they decided to fly the car?? 😭
- Gilderoy Lockhart. His favourite colour is lilac. I love this man
- The introduction of the legendary overused spell, Expelliarmus. Thank you, Severus
- "Scared, Potter?" "You wish"
- Parseltongue
- Dobby is so ruthless
- "Oh, Potter, you rotter, oh, what have you done
You're killing off students, you think it's good fun"
It's a shame the movies left out Peeves
- Hagrid sending off Harry and Ron into the Forest to see Aragog 💀
- And they conveniently get saved by their now-sentient-car ig
- How on earth did a huge basilisk fit into tiny pipes??
- Why on earth did Harry fling his wand away when he saw Ginny? Like you're literally inside the Chamber of Secrets, you know there's a Basilisk somewhere, and a possible Slytherin descendant is lurking here, AND YOU FLING THE WAND AWAY???
- Tom Marvolo Riddle - I am Lord Voldemort. Blew my little 9 year old brain
- Oh how convenient it is that the Basilisk venom has only one extremely rare cure and it just so happened that that exact cure came flying into the Chamber carrying a hat that could produce a sword made of the only thing in the world that could kill said Basilisk, and not just that, Goblin Steel can also absorb the venom making it useful in the upcoming books. And it also happened to be Gryffindor's
- And oh, get this, the flying cure pecks the Basilisk in the eye, taking away it's petrifying powers, and the Basilisk literally whips its tail and sends the Hat flying ONTO HARRY'S LAP so Harry could kill it, and Tom Riddle, the smartest student ever, sees a Phoenix crying into Harry's Basilisk wound and DOESN'T DO ANYTHING?? He LAUGHS thinking it's crying cuz Harry is dying?? Oh. My. God
- Now they're miles deep underground with no way to get out, surely they're stuck right? Psshhh the convenient flying cure that came with the convenient Hat that produced a convenient Sword made out of a convenient metal can also conveniently fly carrying heavy loads! How convenient!!
- And Lucius Malfoy conveniently forgets how house elves work and tosses a sock to Dobby conveniently freeing him, and the Mandrake cure is conveniently finished just in time for Hermione to catch the train back, and Hagrid is also released from prison conveniently to say goodbye, everything is back to normal YAY
- But seriously though, I love this book. It's such fun
