I love her writing! This one was a little slow starting as I had to get used to the style. Overall a great read, I enjoyed the twists towards the end of the story.

If you're familiar with Liane Moriary's writing, this is a kind of a darker progression into family life than the husband's secret was. The writing is great and the story is gripping but the book is intense and much harsher than her older novels because it's about domestic abuse. So don't let the flowery cover fool you into thinking this is some cheerful rom com beach lit. It's a more suspenseful story about domestic violence, but true to Moriarty form it does have a happy ending that works and there are some laugh out loud funny parts.

For lack of a better comparison, it was more like a Coen film with that dark dramedy vibe than the lighter tone of chick lit. I read it in one sitting because I had to know what happened and I couldn't go to sleep without finishing the book.

This book was utterly amazing. I couldn't put it down. Incredibly compelling from the start.

Love Laine's books!

Took a bit to get into as I didn't have much time for reading recently, but worth the wait of the plot twist! Can't wait to read another book by her!

Holy shit this book was so good. 10/10 recommend.

SO good. I really enjoyed this; it's the best book I've read so far this year. I love how the issues were so complex that you couldn't really get mad when the characters didn't respond/react in the same ways that you thought they should have. It did feel a teeny, tiny but drawn out towards the end, but boy was it worth it. The twists were unexpected for me, and towards the end, I just could not put it down. It was at the point where each POV had something building and right when it would get to the apex it'd switch so you had to just keep going to find out more.

Really great. 4.5
medium-paced

i really...did not expect to enjoy this book as much as i did. like, at all. i only picked it up because my best friend was reading it and i figured "eh, let's give it a try." BOY WAS I WRONG.

big little lies had me hooked from the beginning. the suburban small town feel pulled me in right away. i loved the dynamic of the town, which was only furthered by the little interview excerpts throughout the book; everyone knew everyone's business, or at least they thought they did. the three lead characters were complex individuals (strong female characters!!!) who had gripping stories that left you questioning what was right and what was wrong. i just really really loved this book.

Great quick read. I watched the HBO show before reading the book and still really enjoyed it. Well written and great characters.

4.5 stars.
A light, funny "chick lit" story that addresses more serious issues in a surprising way. Very well done.
It would make a great movie!
