Too excited for this! Planning on re-reading the whole thing a 3rd time, kind of dreading it but it MUST be done!

Update: June 16

Where do i even start. I've been sitting on this review for a month now, at a loss for words. It's impossible to express my feelings towards this series with mere letters, augh! how do I explain to you the epicness of this series, the glory of Robert Jordan and subsequently Brandon Sanderson. How?!

When I was 13 a bookstore opened across the road from my house. It was a great moment in my life considering bookstores were few and far between where I grew up and that I was already insane about books. That was were i first discovered WOT. I remember that day very clearly. Up until then, my exposure to fantasy had been through Y.A. novels (Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, Narnia, etc.) and I fancied myself a fantasy fan. Little did I know that there was a much bigger world out there. i don't know what drew me to the WOT books, but I do remember liking the covers and picking up a random one. I was so intrigued after reading the blurb and disappointed that they didn't seem to have the first book in the series. I eventually hunted it down and thus begin my WOT obsession.

13 years later, I found myself on a plane, finally reading the last few chapters of AMOL, after having read the previous books 3 times, bawling my eyes out over the most emotional and heart wrenching ending that has ever been written. Every paragraph felt like a stab to heart, I still feel so moved every time I think of the final events.

I can't talk about this without having spoilers everywhere. All I'm going to say is this last book surpassed all my expectations, I could not have imagined a better ending, deaths and all. This has forever cemented WOT as my favorite fantasy and nothing will ever take it's place. Thank you Robert Jordan for leaving this beautiful legacy behind. I see myself re-reading it time and again and always being surprised by things I had missed in previous reads.

The Wheel of Time is an Epic like no other.

I only have tears left; the only thing this book left me with feels like leaving a cemetery, like letting a loved one go. A journey that took me two and a half years to accomplish, and the pain is too great to even be able to write this review.

As I said, I don’t know how to start with this; I feel lost with this book and its events. The stakes were so high, but some parts felt boring and dragged out. I still don’t understand why they saved the Black Tower storyline for the final book, or why they took Logain's story and gave it to Androl. Some of the deaths were just emotionless and didn’t hold the impact they should have, like Siuan and Birgitte deserved so much better. Not telling anything to Tam or Nynaeve really upset me.

Brandon did what he could with the material RJ left. I don't put all the blame on him because Jordan really stretched this saga, which could have been ten books and still been impactful. So, I’m going to elaborate a little on the EF5, where the story is drawn from.

Perrin, I’m so sorry for the boring storyline they gave you in the final book. Why were we stuck in the dream world when we were supposed to be in the Last Battle, not in Tel'aran'rhiod. I’m glad you pushed through it and accomplished what you needed to in the last chapters.

Egwene, this is a hard one. I didn’t like her much, and she often got on my nerves, but I didn’t expect her to die. You went through so much and accomplished a lot, only to die. Your death was so beautiful, like the best death in this book. The sequence of Rand finding out about her had me crying so much.

The lack of Nynaeve, that’s my sister! Why couldn’t I get more of her? She’s one of the strongest in the One Power, so why didn’t they have her in the battles? Still, I loved that she was with Rand in Shayol Ghul.

Lan was amazing in this book, my king, giving it his all. The parallels with Rand gave me chills.

Mat, well, I’m not going to elaborate much because they just butchered my boy. We were getting character development, and then we took ten steps back. The character stayed the same, and his misogynist traits increased to a ten. I’m so sorry; Mat was getting so good until book 11. He still did amazing things like a bloody hero and commanded the Last Battle like no one else could. I will always love him for everything he did.

Rand, this is a hard one too. I have never connected with a character like I did with my beloved shepherd. A character that went through hell and back and came out winning, playing the long battle and succeeding. Rand has taught me so much in these two and a half years I've accompanied him through this journey. It only makes me sad to say goodbye to him and this world. It’s more like a "see you later" because I will never let him go. It will be until the next turn of the Wheel because “There are no endings, and never will be endings, to the turning of the Wheel of Time.”

To finish, this saga is one of the best in high fantasy. Everyone needs to read it and experience its greatness. That chapter of the Last Battle alone is a master class in fiction and an accomplishment in the genre. Thank you, Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, for changing my life.

An amazing two year journey has come to an end. I feel good about the end. While there may never be endings to the turning of the weel it as an ending. A good one.

This book was truly epic. What a fantastic way to end this legendary series.
CAWPILE(A) Breakdown:
Characters: 5 - While I still didn't like some characters and some characters I still felt meh about, others I grew to love. It was a fitting end for these characters.
Atmosphere/Setting: 5 - The settings were perfectly written, the atmosphere was perfectly felt - it was like I was there for the Last Battle.
Writing Style: 4.5 - Here is where I will agree to disagree with some fans. I know that the WoT fans sometimes are a bit argumentative and don't like criticism. I get it. But for me, personally, while I truly enjoyed what Sanderson did wit this book - and the series - I couldn't give a full score here because certain chapters did not need to be as long as they were. I am not saying that those chapters weren't needed - they absolutely were - but they did not need to be as long as they were. They could have been easily broken up in to multiple chapters and had the same impact - in my opinion. I'm thinking of one chapter in particular, if you've read it you know. And yes, it did affect my reading of it - which is why I marked down just a half point.
Plot: 5/5 - An epic ending for an epic series.
Intrigue: 5/5 - Loved the build up to this book and the ending of the book and the series. We knew the Last Battle was going to happen, but we didn't know all that would happen in it.
Logic/Relationships: 5/5 - Everything made too much damned sense. lol.
Enjoyment: 5/5 - Despite my slight critism, I did truly enjoy this book and the series as a whole. (I will have a video review for this book and the series, seperately, coming soon to my channel.)
Audiobook: 4.5/5 - There were sometimes when Michael Kramer's voices kind of blended into each other and it all sounded like the same character, which through me off when I wasn't following along with the hardcover copy.
Total: 39/8 = 4.875 - 4.5 stars.
Quotes:
"The world needed an Amyrlin." (150)
"If this whole Doomslayer title did not work out for her, perhaps she could find work as a chandelier." (501)
"Who can we trust if we cannot trust our own minds?" (583)
"He could cut a Trolloc in half  with a gateway at three hundred paces, and summon fire from inside Dragonmount itself, and he still wanted to carry a sword. It was, she decided, a male thing." (637)
"In his palm sat the world, and upon that world a continent, and upon that continent a battlefield, and upon that battlefield two bodies on the ground." (812)

SPOILER QUOTE Don't read if you haven't read the book yet:
"Thom Merllin sat on a large, soot-blackened boulder, smoking his pipe, watching the world end." (896)
"I must be far from insufferable, since you've done an excellent job of suffering me these last months." (903)
