i enjoyed this one okay, although i do have my problems with it.

for roughly the first third of the book i felt like the narration got pretty distracted by tangents and as a result the pacing felt really slow until it gets to the meat of the book. at certain points it definitely felt like there was a word/page count to be reached.

however, once it got to the action all of the major problems i had disappeared and it became much more of an enjoyable read. the fighting scenes were intense, the calmer moments were much more focused, and the story as a whole panned out in a gratifying way.

This was a really fun read! My only complaint is that the first few chapters were so slow. They kept pausing for gushing and backstory, which, ok fine. But it dragged a bit. But once it started to pick up the pace, it was like a boulder rolling down a hill. In a good way :)

DNF: made it about 50 pages in. I got this as an unproofed galley at NYCC 2019

I really wanted to like this. I should have liked this. It has everything I like. Female main characters and friendships. Girls kicking ass. Zombies. But the writing style didn't work for me. Each paragraph was barely a few sentences long, so I couldn't get into any rhythm. So much of what I read was describing scenery, much of it uninteresting. And most of it didn't matter to the story. And a huge amount of what I read was the POV character describing people we never meet. Why are you telling me this? I don't care. We don't meet the people in question.

This turned into a rant. I'm not upset with what I read. Just disappointed. I hate when books don't work out.
