I enjoyed this book for the most part. I really enjoyed that it was set at a convention I liked the way the zombies were told and how there are still unanswered questions as to what caused them and most of all I love the friendship that the story had told us!

The only reason this book is no higher rated is because of the forced straightness and romance that we got in the last half of the book. That brought my enjoyment down a but. I wish that would have been left out.

Overall very enjoyable if you like zombies and conventions!

Trigger warnings: death, violence, gore, zombies, death of a friend/companion

I was instantly sold on the premise of this - teenage girls go to a zombie-themed convention only to find that a real life zombie plague has broken out, specifically at the convention - and the cover is STUNNING. Unfortunately, I found this pretty slow going. It honestly took about half the book for the zombie stuff to even start happening, so it was kind of a case of too little too late by the time the action actually started. And when the book is over FOUR HUNDRED PAGES, it just felt like a slog. Add in a rushed ending and this was fine but also not really for me. Sigh.

The first 13 or so chapters were so slow it nearly made me drop reading the book. I'm so glad pushed through though. Everything was happening so fast when the actual zombie attacks started tha tI could barely put the book down. I was holding my breath from then until the end of the book.
There are tons of death though. And every single one of those made my heart ache. I loved every one of them, even Cuellar who was a d**k when he first appeared

I dug this! I'm into the trend of fandom-themed YA books, and you can definitely tell when authors really "get" fandom. This felt true to me (though as you may know I am NOT a zombie fan), and I also loved its crew of teenage girls working to reconcile their fandom with feminism and social justice. Also, the pain of friendship breakup (and, spoiler, reunion) was well-captured. Not to mention the dream celeb romance!

I still don't really like zombies but the conceit of actual zombies at a zombie fan con was clever and should definitely appeal to fans of Walking Dead etc.

One word: Awesome. This is a bad ass feminist story with strong female friendships and of course, zombies. I was sold the second zombies were mentioned. Like the girls in this book, I too am a huge zombie fan. I've watched pretty much every zombie movie out there, and one of my favorite game series is Resident Evil. Weirdly, I'm not a Walking Dead fan, but I think it's cause I just enjoy the format of movies and games where it feels less endless. I don't know.

Back to the book, the main characters are at ZombieCon, and they are attending because the cast of their favorite zombie show (I assume based a little on the Walking Dead series) is at the con. More importantly, the girls are seniors in high school and determined to make Memories. Big ones, before they all head off separately for college.

I loved our narrator June. She's flawed, smart but still a teenager at heart. She grows in maturity through the book, but she also never makes stupid decisions. She thinks things out and makes good calls in the moment. The first half of the book is about mostly fandom and normal highschool drama. The second half focuses on surviving a zombie attack and how some people fall apart while others rise to be leaders and heroes. Both portions of the story are really well done, though the first half maybe drags just a little. It takes quite awhile to get to the zombie attack, but once that happens the action kicks into high gear.

Lots of fun, and also really interesting to have a mostly female cast. There is a slight hint of romance, but that's definitely not a big part of this story. It's very much about the friendship between the girls.
