If you like watching the Hallmark channel (which I do not), then have I got a book for you! This story reads just like a hokey Hallmark movie. There's nothing wrong with that, per se, however, I wasn't expecting something so....sappy.

The beginning of this story really sucks you in and keeps you turning the pages, but then it drops off a cliff the entire middle. The ending is one you can see from a mile away and is all saccharine and happy-go-lucky.

There's a very weak mystery thrown in, and the entire storyline near the end, with Anders's stepfather, was completely unnecessary to the story and felt like filler, but all that aside, it wasn't terrible, it was just dull and predictable.

This book was one of my most anticipated reads for 2021, but it ended up being a disappointment. Anders was a bumbling fool who, I'm sorry, but just was NOT a very observant reporter, and Piper's good-girl persona felt cardboard, just like the rest of the townsfolk. They all had a part to play and a mold they were cut from...cranky isolated islanders who refuse to change their ways until a lovable little scamp shows up, stirs the pot, royally pisses them off, then wins them all over, saving Christmas the town and getting the girl.

See? Hallmark movie.

Overall I don't discourage anyone from reading this as it's a perfectly fine story, but I personally didn't love it.

A well-written, sweet story that is a pretty typical romance. Boy meets girl. Boy has the dumb. Girl gets mad. Everything comes out alright eventually. Except the ending is a bit different than you would think. Which was nice.

I was expecting more mystery and maybe a twist, but there really wasn't. Granted, the main character thought there would be too, and he was disappointed. So, that's fair.

I would have loved more about Anders and his stepdad, too. That storyline actually made me feel feels, and there's not much page space given to it. It's so refreshing to see a GOOD dad in a story.

Worth a read if you want something light and summery. It was a lovely story.

What an enjoyable book! I dreamed about this book so you know it is a good one. The people of Frick Island were real people full of love and care for one another. Great story that was well written.
