I have been such a huge fan of Lutz and the Spellman series and her books never disappoint. This was no exception although there is that little bit towards the end that I'm a little disappointed about! I am anxiously crossing my fingers for good (or at least better) things to come where that *being vague so as not to spoil* situation is concerned in the next novel.

For those uneducated in all things Spellman, this is 5th in a series about a wacky, dysfunctional family of private investigators and what it's like to grow up in a family with no concept of privacy or boundaries. Except a few mysteries and intrigues, a couple love stories, some seriously funny footnotes and family dinner scenes that will make your own family seem quite normal by comparison. Terrifically funny but also clever and insightful. These books truly have it all.

How can this book be funny and depressing at the same time? Out loud chuckles and overwhelming depressing. Seriously, ah Spellmans.

I won an ARC through Goodreads--thank you!--but had not read any of the previous books in the Spellmans series. I've had the first book, The Spellman Files on my To Read list for a while, but just hadn't gotten to it. I am averse to reading a series out of chronological order, so I spent the last couple of weeks reading the series from start to (hopefully not) finish. I love this series. I will say that this installment was not my favorite, but any continuation of the Spellman story is one to which I will always look forward.

It was okay, pretty funny, actually. Was alarmed when I came to goodreads to add it on my read list, and realized this was not the second spellman, as I had thought, and also excited! So, yay, more to read! Reminds me of my mom, since this is one we both read. Hope I can find the other strange detective novel we read, it's a female detective, unwilling detective I think, she's also on drugs, just kind of a strange book, which is awesome. Anyways, I'll figure it out at some point, I'm sure. I'll just happen upon it.

It was good, but there was definitely some sort of sad-ish undertone. I love the Spellman's, but it just wasn't as funny as the others. There were a lot of funny moments, and I can't wait (hope?) for the next one....it just was a little bit more somber than I'm used to from the author. Still, well worth the wait.
