the imagery and details in this novel are impeccable, like barker creates such a world on the page!!

justice for janet, i thought she was such an interesting character and i absolutely adore when an author writes about the young female experience like hell truly is being a teenage girl…anyway she's really just the sweetest especially the compassion she has for animals and her love of reading is very relatable.

dark at times for sure, but also hopeful and relatable, with ebbs and flows of losses of girlhood innocence like give me back my girlhood it was mine fiiiiiirst!!!!!!!

I loved it. It was hard work in places. I didn't always understand what was happening. The description in it was unbelievably detailed. I fell in love with the main character and despised the way she was treated. Not much seemed to happen but it was so full! Would I recommend it? Yes - but only if you're up for trying something new. Would I read it again? Probably yes but not for a while. I wish I'd read it years ago and then found it again. I'm eager to meet someone who has read it so I can talk to them. And it's obvious to me that the author is a fellow synesthete and wonder if she knew.
