I didn’t know that a book about a 7th grade boy could be so relatable. I love love love love this one.
Read this with my son for school. It was a sweet heartwarming story and we both enjoyed it.
1.5 stars. This book is cheap and had hippie propaganda. Don't know why people are praising it. I'm just doing my due diligence as an uncle to make sure Hannah isn't reading anything Filth and/or Foul.
I'm glad I don't have a dad like the one in this book. He doesn't deserve to be a dad when he acts like that.
The junior high teacher would take her students camping? Lucky.
Why did the teacher hate him at the beginning of the story? We never knew the answer.
Was the author trying to be cute to name that Asian boy Mi T Wong? And speaking of names, Holling Hoodhood? Dumb.

I love this story! Though it takes place during tumultuous 1968 it is very relevant to today and written in a way that contemporary kids can relate. The relationships and friendships that form in this story are wonderful and they are really the heart of the book. Holling Hoodhood, our protagonist also discovers a bit about what finding yourself...and being found... is all about. I just absolutely loved this book...it surpassed my expectations which is always refreshing!
One of my most favorite books! I first read this years ago and have been recommending it to everyone since, but thought I should reread it before I give it as a Christmas gift. The second time didn’t disappoint, even though I knew what would happen. I laughed out loud and cried.

One of the finest YA books I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.
Took me a long time to read this because school has been pretty consuming lately. I did like it a lot, it addressed serious topics without being heavy. I appreciated The character development. The teacher-student relationship was unrealistic though so I didn’t love that being a teacher myself
Seriously one of the funniest books I've ever read. I always pick it up when I can't fall asleep or I'm really upset.
Excellent. Enjoyed it just as much as I did Okay For Now. Schmidt writes wonderful historical fiction, keeps it clean for a teenaged or even upper-elementary audience. He's got the "teenage boy" character down pat, but without being crude or stupid. Loved this book!
