This reminded me A LOT of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and even though it is not tagged as Young Adult fiction, that is what this is. The character development is better than the last TJ Klune book I read (In the Lives of Puppets), and I enjoyed this book a lot more.

It is a wholesome story, with likeable, quirky characters.

thinly disguised fairy tale of the issues that our society faces today. prejudice, hate, discrimination, immigration, LGBTQ, fear of those we do not know, racism, sexism, and just about any other current issue. funny juxtaposition with Lucy ( lucifer ) and Arthur ( phoenix ). Arthur arose from the ashes to be the father to the disenfranchised. there were quite a few places that I highlighted statements on how we can care for each other and have a better world. Linus Baker goes to investigate the house in the Cerulean Sea to see if it should continue to house the magical youth that were there. Of course he is changed. A shy unassuming man that is a faithful rule follower breaks out of that shell to be an advocate for the weak. He finds love as well.
