I heard about this audiobook from Startalk - they shared a video with Malcolm and I had to go check it out immediately. I grew up not far from the airforce base discussed in the book and I had never heard of the bomber mafia. This book was incredibly informative. It was also incredibly emotional.

I have to admit I took stars off because this is supposed to be a scholarly approach and towards the end the book had some religious references that felt out of place and jarred me from the topic at hand.

This felt like watching a documentary or a video essay. I definitely recommend the audiobook.

Ok , this is not a subject matter I am particularly interested in, but Malcolm Gladwell's audiobooks are so brilliantly put together that they make you interested. This one is no exception - I love how he uses the original audio recordings of interviews and news reports rather than just reading it himself. Makes it so much more engaging.
In the afterword, he said that this book started off as an audiobook, and then was later put into print, so that is probably why it was so engaging as it was made for the medium. Well worth a listen...I learned quite a lot.

This isn't my usual genre, even within non-fiction I'm not usually drawn to these types of topics. It was informative, interesting, and the writing style was easy to read (even though the subject matter wasn't always what i would call easy reading). I would probably suggest it to people I know are interested in history or the airforce, but this wasn't so life changing and earth shattering amazing that I'm going to run around suggesting it to everybody I know.

This was an incredibly informative and fascinating audiobook! A rare look at an overlooked part of history that dictated how we wage wars. Full of Malcolm’s obsessive detail and fresh perspective on history, this is a must listen for all. I have a very limited knowledge of WWII but the way the book is written is suitable for anyone. Really puts the moral question of war at the forefront and challenges whether people choose to stick to their morals under all circumstances or get tempted by the devil. It’s a much shorter book that I listened to over two days and it’s similar to his podcast format which I found to be highly engaging. Highly recommend!
