Beautifully written and inspiring that Helen continously tries to do the right thing for all around her, especially her husband, despite his actions. Gilbert and Helen are both mistaken in the characters of the people around them and slowly learn to see them for what they are. This helps the pair see that the other is pure of heart.
I really liked the way the book was written in form of a letter from Gilbert to his friend and Helen's diary and letters to her brother.

This is my favorite Brontë sister book. It’s so less insipid than Jane Eyre, and tbh, I can’t get through Wuthering Heights.
The book is a fairly accurate portrayal of a Woman dealing with a failed marriage, combined with alcohol abuse. It’s surprisingly real for a Victorian novel, and it pulls few punches.
At the time this book was considered “too much” but I think it’s a great book and deserves much more attention.
