It's been a while since a book made my jaw drop and my face take another form! I loved everything about it from start to finish! The relational history between the characters and how steadfast Trapper in his convictions I liked the most.
Seeing Red by Sandra Brown is a 2017 Grand Central publication.
A gripping, dynamic and complex thriller from one of the best romantic suspense authors around!
Pictures that capture iconic or heroic moments in time are etched into our consciousness, conjuring the emotions and trauma of an event, cementing it in our minds forevermore. The image of Major Franklin Trapper leading a small number of people from a bombed out hotel, captured his brave act of heroism, adding it to those iconic images, and catapulted him to enormous fame.
Now, years later, ambitious and dedicated journalist, Kerra Bailey has her heart set on interviewing the Major. But, he’s not answering her calls. As a last resort, she contacts his estranged son, Trapper, hoping he can help get her foot in the door.
Her plan works, despite Trapper’s blunt rudeness, but once Kerra gets her chance, it turns deadly when she and the Major are attacked inside his home. The logical motive behind the ambush must have something to do with the decades old bombing and the fear that Kerra’s interview might unearth long buried secrets and corruption.
Trapper, a former ATF agent, once on the brink of discovering who was behind the hotel bombing, that made his father famous, but also drove a wedge between them, is determined to keep Kerra safe, while hopefully solving the decades old crime that cost so many people their lives.
This story has a sophisticated plot, tapping on a few timely themes, solving not one, but two horrendous crimes. One, the cold case, which is long overdue for justice and the present -day crimes connected to it.
For Kerra, the interview with the Major, could make her a superstar, but it’s much more personal that anyone realizes. It’s personal for Trapper as well, but he doesn’t want to let on how worried he is about his father or how much he cares about Kerra.
As the pair join forces, they begin to uncover a shocking trail of greed, coercion, and abuse of power. The twists come at a rapid -fire pace, with skill and cunning precision.
There are plenty of thought provoking characterizations, all well-defined and full of conflict and festering resentments. The bad guys chilled me to the bone with their unapologetic lack of remorse, twisted and manipulative mind games, and lust for power and control.
The romance between Trapper and Kerra may be rocky, but it’s blazing hot! I loved the dialogue and banter between the couple, and despite Trapper’s lack of apparent sentimental charm, I couldn’t stay mad at him for long, and mostly got a kick out his frank appraisals and remarks.
Sandra Brown has romantic suspense writing down to a science. Her fans want and expect edgy plotlines and high -heat romance, and she more than delivers with this novel. But, even if you don’t enjoy reading romance, there is a perfect balance of the two elements, so that it will appeal to a broader audience and to anyone who simply wants to enjoy a good old fashioned thriller.
Sandra Brown is a ‘go to’ author for me, and has been for years. Her books just keep getting better and better!

dnf'd at about 90~ pages. I wasn't very interested in the story, the mc was alriiiiight, but the main reason I had to put this down was because of Trapper, the prospective love interest. He rubbed me the wrong way and had zero respect for Kerra (the mc). I normally don't mind/can enjoy the hate to love trope, but he was just so severely unlikable in the first 90 or so pages of the book, I could not imagine myself feeling any different for the rest of the book.
I'm pretty disappointed. This was meant to be a nostalgic read for me since I used to LOVE reading Sandra Brown's books when I was younger. Guess I'll have to try with another one.

4.5 Stars!! Reeeaally good and emotional—I liked how everything came together. My only drawback was Trapper and Kerra, I love down and dirty, but I wish there was a little more sweetness in there somewhere

In the end, this book had a very cohesiveness story. There were times I doubted its progress, but it delivered quite well.
I felt for the two main characters. One, being flawed immensely, the other being manipulated.
Corruption is like a cancer, so the solving of this dilemma was not easy to accomplish. The idea of friendship and trust, was another theme within this book.
Small towns are knit together very closely. This can be a good thing, and it can be a bad thing. So often, we see in dramas...it being used for evil. I like that within this story, it was used for both, but in the end, Good wins out.

I just discovered Sandra this year, and this is the third book of hers I have read. It wasn't my favorite, but still a good read.
3.5 stars
I enjoyed this an insane amount and I totally did not see the ending coming. I thought I knew and figured out bits but only the stuff the author wanted me to know. The actual answer to the mystery was far better than I had going in my head and I loved it. It's great when any book which involves a whodunnit element surprises you.
The story in this one was great. It was an excellent mystery and I enjoyed being surprised by the new CD lies and learning of the mystery of both Trapper and the Majors past and learning how past events shaped what was happening in the now. It was smart and gripping reading which is always a plus. Especially as I've been in a bit of a slump.
You may question why I'd rate it 3.5 stars if I enjoyed it so much and that is mostly the characters bothered me at times. I liked Trapper and his abrasive and charming ways but I also disliked his alpha I know attitude and how forceful he was with the romance. I don't know. I liked the characters bit they had their moments of bothering me.

Filled with tons of shocking plot twists and mile-a-minute action, Seeing Red is the newest exciting thriller being released by bestselling author Sandra Brown. And you won’t believe the intriguing paths she takes us on with this story.
‘The more he explained, the more he baffled her. She didn’t know what to believe and what not to. With seamless ease, he melded fact with fabrication and sarcasm with sincerity.’
There was so much that happened over the course of this four hundred plus page book that it’s hard to know where to start! One thing I can say is that of course you know just by picking up one of Sandra Brown’s books that you’re in for a wild ride, with great characters and a rock solid plot. That’s a given. But boy did she turn this into an incredibly emotional, tangled up mess that pulled at my heart. Between the family issues, people double-crossing each other, and the love story between Kerra and Trapper, there was definitely a lot to grab a reader’s attention here. Read More
