This book is nice. Like nothing special as such or interesting. It might get a bit boring at times. And when I was expecting some drama, this story didn't deliver it as expected.

The story of hades and Stephanie was good easy going as expected. Stephanie seems to be an interesting character in the beginning but didn't turn out to be that intriguing. Hades character didn't match my expectations but it was better than Stephanie's.

Overall it's a good one-time read story for me.

Digital forensic analyst Stephanie Costas is both overworked and overwhelmed. When her best friend Sara forces her to take a vacation with her, Stephanie is worried about her duties at work and that she won’t be able to relax. On the sunny island of Greece, Stephanie runs into a brooding stranger named Hades, and can’t help but be attracted to him. As Hades and Stephanie grow closer, he reveals the truth - that he is actually the original Hades, King of the Underworld. Floored and confused, Stephanie has never felt anything like what she feels for the darkly handsome god. But how can she get attached to him, when she has to return to her job in the United States, and he has to return to his duties in the Underworld?

Okay, so this is my first Carly Spade book, and now I’m hooked!!! Stephanie was an amazing protagonist, very likable and genuine. And Hades… he was super enticing and incredibly kind, although he tries to hide it. Their chemistry was absolutely off the charts, even from their very first meeting. This book had the perfect amount of hilarity, steam, and angst. I loved this retelling of the Hades/Persephone myth, and I can’t wait to read more from this author. I definitely recommend to any mythology retelling or contemporary romance lovers.

I actually didn't enjoy this book. But the author finished it and published a bunch more, and that's a lot of work. So, stars to you.

Pros: it is a romantic story that turns out in the end for the main characters.

Cons: if you thought from the blurb there would be mystery and possibly adventure in the plot, then you will be disappointed and annoyed by the plot primarily revolving around flirting at a swim up bar and some comically annoying other guests. A mystery wouldve made me more tolerant of the confused mythos imagery (awful lot of devil references for Hades) and given the characters something on than "I like your aura" to kick of their heartily convenient relationship.

But, it was a low key read and I did finish it rather than be without a book. I can't believe it but I am actually considering reading another someday when I just need a distraction that isn't social media.

It is a romance, and there is a single spice scene that I'd put around a

Ye…no. One of the most childish books I’ve ever read. Like I know Hades isn’t like, BAD BAD. But this Hades? No. Nope. Pass. Nope.

Did someone say Greek Mythology? Yes? Well, you can already guess that I did whatever I could to get an ARC of this book and I can very happily say that I got it! Twice. I got the ARC e-mailed after I found it on Booksprout. Well, I was a double happy kiddo! I was very curious how this story would work out. Because, the thing with being a Greek mythology nerd is that something either works for me or it doesn't work at all. So, a little bit nervous I started reading this morning.

And, to start with the most important thing, I loved the Greek Mythology part. I was very happy to see Hades not as the bad guy, but as a lonely guy with a heavy job who is slightly stuck in time. On top of that I was quite surprised that so much mythology made it into the book. Persephone, Cerberus (and his nickname), Apollo, Thanos, Zeus, the Underworld and so on. And most of it was kind of how I always imagined this world and those characters.

On top of that, Stephanie had a quite natural reaction to all of it, which is also a rarity in books. Of course, she gets a hold of herself much sooner than any real person would, but else the story wouldn't be interesting anymore. And although I wouldn't say that she and Hades have this all consuming passionate relationship, I did enjoy them together. Because, they did respect each other, did understand each other and didn't attempt to change the other into something they were not. And I personally think that's way more important than burning passion.

Plot wise the story isn't too heavy or deep. The biggest part of the book is used to get Hades and Stephanie to spend time together and there's a small side plot that leads to a few exciting action scenes. However, this makes the book a perfect light read for this summer. Now we're all stuck at home and can't go that far, this book is a nice little vacation to Corfu and the Underworld. And, from what I've seen of Apollo in this book, I'm really excited to read the next one in the series!

2.5 stars I struggled to read this book, while the synopsis was intriguing it was not executed very well. I liked that it was set in the modern world but the pop references kinda killed some of the vibes and will not make this book long-lasting.
