The *cause* of the whispers makes my skin crawl and the thought of anyone treating their children in such a cruel manner is lamentable, because it happens all the time.

Well that hit the spot.

It's horrible!!  The, what appears to be, main character just whines and complains constantly... So annoying

I really enjoy Dean Koontz books. This one is ok, but it really doesn't compete with so many of his others. Watchers is amazing., try that one!

I started reading this, and after having read quite a bit of Koontz, I knew right away that this had to be one of his earlier novels.

Unlike many of his following novels, this one reads a lot like a King book. Though I am a fan of King, I like Koontz more because he has the same fascinating, twisty plots, but he gets to the dang point quicker. This book, however, went into way too much detail sometimes.

It still has some the major elements of Koontz -- a main character that you feel with, a villain who is reaaaally f-ed up -- but it was missing his beautiful writing style full of metaphors and similes.

The plot was decent, but I wouldn't read this one again.

This was a chore to finish and frankly I wish I had given up. The plot hinges on the madness of the characters but that doesn’t excuse some of the nonsensical plot contrivances. There’s a 100 page lull where nothing happens and that should’ve been my sign. I only finished this book because it was a recommendation by a friend (a friend who normally has good taste and apparently had a rare lapse in judgement). I can easily sum up the worst thing about this book and if you think it’s up your alley...well damn what sort of issues do you have going on?
That thing being?
