A Flowers for Algernon type plot set in the recent present where the country is run by an anti-science authoritarian president (an unnamed Donald Trump). Circles around life, astronomy, and family. Touches on autism and totalitarianism. For once in a long time I’ve read a Booker nominated novel before the prize has been given. Comparing it to last year’s Booker winner, which i just read a couple months ago, I’d say this was the better book. So we’ll see what happens, although I have no plans on reading the other nominees from this year.
