On the whole a enjoyable read. Characters fully fleshed out. Laughed out loud at times, loved the marital argument scenes. Ugh loathed Howard.

My first zadie smith book. I admire how she writes the characters and their relationships, especially getting to know them through dialogue. I guess this Book is in conversations with the book "Howard's End" and I get the connection to other themes:
Exploration of academia politics, marriage and familial relationships, race and social class differences.
But maaaaaaaaaannnn this was so slow. Loved how it started out but my interest decreased exponentially after part 1. Honestly didnt care much for the academic scenes both students and teachers. (The academic was supposed to be humorous? Where?) Plus with all the characters being unlikeable and despicable, it was a combo that made it hard to finish. Just not for me.
