I don't think it's appropriate to rate someone's diary. I was certainly fascinated by it but I had a hard time reading it, knowing that she didn't publish it herself. It was released 30+ years after her death. Let it be known that I don't want my diary published upon my death.
this book PROVES without a shadow of a doubt that nobody has ever (or will ever) do it like Frida. The style of her diary and her writing is heart wrenchingly beautiful, and her sketches are just as alive as her paintings. I've loved getting to know her better through books, as much as anyone ever could. I also commend the brilliant introduction (best intro *I've* ever read), essay at the front of the book, and the incredible translating skills used to bring the book to gringas like me. Read this book!
I do not review diaries.
How could I, they are not written to be judged (is anything?)

" I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality "
Originally never intended to be published, “The Diary Of Frida Kahlo” provides a deeply intimate and emotionally raw insight into the mind of one of the greatest (in my opinion) artists of the 20th century.
The shear passion, creativity and endurance that fuel these pages, quite frankly makes it utterly impossible to rate.
So instead I’ll let the work and writing speak for it self:
“I’ll try out the pencils
sharpened to the point of infinity
which always sees ahead:
Green — good warm light
Magenta — Aztec. old TLAPALI
blood of prickly pear, the
brightest and oldest
Brown — colour of mole, of leaves becoming
earth
Yellow — madness sickness fear
part of the sun and of happiness
Blue — electricity and purity love
Black — nothing is black — really nothing
Olive — leaves, sadness, science, the whole
of Germany is this colour
Yellow — more madness and mystery
all the ghosts wear
clothes of this colour, or at
least their underclothes
Dark blue — colour of bad advertisements
and of good business
Blue — distance. Tenderness
can also be this blue
blood?”
STUNNING.
