I’m mostly reading these for the nostalgia factor. I haven’t read them since I was a teen myself, after which I got swept up in the whole ‘these are the worst things ever written’ thing. They’re not. They’re fine. If I hadn’t enjoyed them the first time around I’m not sure I’d have enjoyed them enough in rereading, but they’re not terrible. I don’t love Bella as a character, but hey, it’s not often you love every aspect of a book. It’s a bit of a relief to find that I don’t relate to her as much as I did when I was sixteen, though, I have to say that.

Ah Twilight...it’s been a good 15 years since I’ve read this book and, honestly, it’s been a fun reread for me. The love story is definitely intolerable and Edward is trash but I do love the setting of Forks and enjoyed the exploration of the vampire/werewolf myth. I also liked the thriller plot of the tracker hunting Bella. I don’t think I would have enjoyed this book if it wasn’t for the nostalgia resulting from reading it in my teen years but revisiting it now offered the fun escapism I wanted.

I can’t in good conscience give this book five stars but I’m such a sucker for this series. yeah it’s cringey blah blah blah but have you ever considered that it adds to the aesthetic

I read this book when I was in my Twilight phase in like 2012 when I was around 11. I didn’t realise just how mundane it was written, it’s honestly nothing too exciting or special in my adult brain. Bella as a character is pretty weak in my eyes, there’s not much to her other than she’s clumsy and obsessive. I think this book would benefit from being entirely for Edward’s POV (which there now is) as he is a more interesting character. I wish Alice’s backstory was noticed more because I find her such an interesting character.

Overall, bad main character and okay story…

It's a hit or miss depending on the reader's taste. I personally loved it.

First person narrative. I usually hate it, because I hate the narrator, but not in this case. Her writing style is also easy to read and follow.

Bella is just another awkward teenager with a love for classic literature and desire to stay away from teenage drama except if we're talking about Edward Cullen. Some may say that it's exaggerating emotions and situations, but do keep in mind that it's about a teenage girl's first (and last) love and that some people live emotions more intensely than others. I don't, but maybe that's why I liked it so much.
