Cute story about book nerds! I have a local indie bookstore where I spend most of my free time, so I liked the focus on running bookstores that create community.

This was a cute book with good feels for the most part! I will say it did feel like it was trying a bit too hard to be relatable and on trend for today's time, and honestly, it threw me off a little. I wish there was more showing and less telling when it came to getting to know the characters. They felt like characters rather than actual fleshed out people to root for. Overall, this was a light read with some humor and spice but definitely had some flaws as well!
DNF’d at 13%. FMC was annoying and having to listen to the narrator say things like “tbh” and “unalive” was not doing it for me.

“Of all the books I’ve ever read and all the fantasies I’ve ever had, none of them hold a candle to the reality of being with you. You are what I’ve been waiting for.”
4.5 ⭐️ I ended up really loving this book! I loved the dynamics between the main characters, I loved the spaces that these booksellers were able to create within their bookstores. A dyslexic bookseller, loved that rep. A man that reads, reads her favorite books, highlights passages from her favorite books that make him think of her?!

Josie and Ryan (or Brian... lol) are managers of adjacent bookstores. Ryan proudly takes care of Happy Endings, a romance bookstore while (as he put it) Josie works at Tabula Inscripta, "a beak wasteland of existential dread". When the books stores are bought and the clueless new owner comes up with the cockamamie idea of merging them and have Josie and Ryan compete for the job as manager of the new, merged store, things go south fast.
Ryan has always had an eye on the always put together, pencil skirt and high heels wearing Josie. Josie always felt unexpected butterflies around the giant wearing cardigans and tortoise shell glasses who is a die hard romance enthusiast. This competition will kill any chance of anything between them... unless they join forces.
Plus there is the pesky situation that they might already be in a relationship - through texts.
Narrated dual style by Karissa Vacker and Brandon Francis, this book is a love letter to books and book lovers. Picture a spicy 'You've Got Mail', an epistolary romance, with secret identities and enemies to friends to lovers vibes. Karissa is, hands down, one of my all time favorite narrators. She gives us a vulnerable and yet determined Josie. Brandon's warm voice is perfect for the cinnamon roll, lover of romance, walking green flag Ryan. A wonderful audio experience. And it champions audiobook listening!
If you love books about books, you'll love this one. You'll hear about book clubs, ARCs, reviews, funny romance acronyms, grand gestures and, the best part? The romance lover is our hero! Lovely!
