Holy shit this book is really good. Deer's prose grips you and pulls you right in with no stops or breaks; sometimes it's downright distressing, sometimes it's hilarious. He speaks from a place of knowledge and I loved reading this very detailed breakdown of the facts and how we got here, to the anti-vaccine crisis of today. Very good book.

Please be advised that this is more a book about reporting on Andrew Wakefield's wrongdoings than about Andrew Wakefield's wrongdoings.

It is informative, though I doubt those who need to read it most ever will. While Brian Deer should tell this story, he should not be the only one. There are others who have been directly harmed by vaccine misinformation who should have a say, or those in medicine who could provide deeper science. No matter how he professes to impartiality, or how he condemns Wakefield's actions, Deer comes across bitter and haughty.

This reveals as much of its author's ego as its subject's.

Man, I don't even think words describe how fundamentally important this book is.

What I wanted was Bad Blood, what I got was extremely British journo against the world. It's informative but very opinionated.

I didn't read this book sooner because I thought I already knew the story, but I was wrong (mostly). The first fifty pages or so seems a little slow, but once it got going I couldn't put it down. Not only does Deer go fully in depth on all the people and facts surrounding Wakefield's anti-vaccine movement, he also tells the story of how he, and some others, uncovered it all. It's shocking, outrageous, sad, and sometimes darkly funny. A great story of how one person can change the world, for the worse.
