I do not know how this author managed to make Jack London, a series of gruesome murders, and San Francisco's 'Barbary Coast' section boring, but that's what this book is. Flaccid, lifeless, and uninteresting.

I moved the book into the bathroom as part of an effort to actually finish it, but today I realized that I would, in fact, rather sit and stare at the wall than read this book. So back to the used book store it goes, unfinished and unappreciated.
