This book was absolutely FILLED with plot. I loved seeing the way the MC grew and softened. I loved how (almost) every time I picked up this book to continue reading, it was deliciously difficult to put down. It felt like SO much happened in 300 pages, which was great at keeping me drawn in (despite taking a long break from reading right in the middle of it). I laughed out loud a few times, I teared up a few times—any book that can make me experience a wide array of emotions is one that I know I’ll be thinking of for a good while after finishing. It started out very cozy, but definitely ended up exploring darker themes. Overall, I’m rating this a 4 because it did feel a little slow to start, was a bit overwritten for a 300 page book in my opinion, and it took a while for me to learn and remember the names and personalities of the side characters. I also personally felt the climax of the story was rushed. Overall, still a very enjoyable story and I’ll absolutely be picking up the second book in this series!

Emily was super cute. She’s quirky and nerdy and introverted. She’s more comfortable with her studies than people and will do more for science than empathy. And yet, she still finds a way to endear others to her. And she has an odd habit of understanding the Fae, who don’t even understand themselves.

This is somewhat of a romance and yet mostly not? Spice level negative zero and yet it’s a cozy romance nonetheless.
Definitely not the read after an epic romantasy like flesh and fire or fourth wing or ToG. But when you’re just looking for a cute easy Fae-mortal world story, this is definitely a good one to pick up.

I really enjoyed the style of writing and the plot of the story. Loved Emily the main character. Wendall grew on me. Very excited to read the next one.
