Oh my god this was SUCH a fun and cozy and engaging read. It felt nostalgic to some of my faves from middle grade and YA, such a fun run through my memory collection of species of fae and the otherworldly folk. I love love love Emily and I love Wendell and the other cast of characters (POE!) and I can't wait to continue the journey. The world building was *chef's kiss* and I think that Heather Fawcett does a great job of the "flesh out what you know and the audience won't notice what you don't" fundamental building blocks of fantasy. It's been a while since I've read something that rang so true to my type of book. While I've really enjoyed some books recently, they were chosen by others for bookclub and surprises for me. This is exactly the type of book I needed 🩵 AND it was a perfect book to read in one day while the power is out!

found the ending a little disappointing in that it was set up to be this big difference but ended up being kinda the same thing? Different enough technically yes, but for me as a reader felt very similar to the og rescue plan.
I
Ultimately really liked it and will be picking up the sequel on payday!

I wanted to love the book but the scene of torturing a changeling child really disturbed me. So much of the language used is similar to language that used to be used about disabled children and it’s clearly a metaphor for disabled children but the actions towards the child are disgusting and disturbing. The fact that the protagonist is never called out or faces repercussions for her actions was so upsetting to me. Ruined what would have been a lovely story.

Adventure! Amazing faerie lore and descriptions! The author conveys the creepiness in such a way I kinda ended up scared. Loved that the motive of the main characters are more personal than anything, no "im such a good person" reason. Short but rich  intrigal anventure!
