It's a story of a very unlikely friendship, between Sally a teenage runaway from a clinic, young with a boundless hate for the world, and Liss who's in her fourties living alone on a farm in the rural ends of the world.
She doesn't ask anything and offers Sally a bed, she expects nothing of her and simply accepts who she is, not pushing her like everyone else in her life seems to do.
The time spreads over weeks and months, where a beautiful friendship grows between them, as two broken people slowly start to open up to each other and heal old wounds woven into the work they share on the farm.
And it is beautiful as a read at the beginning of autumn when the summer comes to an end.
The two characters feel like two sides of the same inner conversation but not with each other, in the beginning at least and it is incredible to see how a frail bonds develops between the two of them. The appreciation of nature that is woven into every line is beautiful and poetic, as a young girl from the city starts to view the life around her differently.
The story touches upon the topic of belonging, healing and acceptance. The two dealing with their own problems but in quiet acceptance of the other.
I highly highly recommend it, it is a truly beautiful story,
Though be sure to check for trigger warnings because parts of their history is a little heavy
