I love this book and wish I had written it. It was very creative, and I found that I couldn't predict what would happen next.
There was one scene that was a bit intense for me, but worth the read regardless.

I'm not sure what to think about Enchanted. I love that it's based on that poem about the days of the week. But it's also a very strange re-telling of that poem, and it's all over the place. There were elements of Cinderella, The Frog Prince and Jack And The Beanstalk thrown in too. It just felt all over the place, and I'm not quite sure if the story was supposed to be happy, dark and twisted or something else? There were so many different things going on, and none of them really worked well together.
There were a few things introduced that could have been interesting, if they were explored more. Like Sunday's brother Jack, or the relationship between the King and Sorrow, or even the relationship between the King and his first two wives, and why he killed to remain immortal. I wanted to know more about Sunday and the frog/prince...when he was a frog, of course.
I'm not sure about the whole family being magical- it just felt too random, and was just another thing that didn't quite fit. Plus...all the fairy tales were pretty inconsistent. Sometimes, Kontis went with the fairy tales (as she did with the frog prince) but other times, she went against it (like the princess and the pea).
I did like the descriptions, and it was a pretty easy read, even if it was a little confusing and convoluted at times.
Final thoughts: There was too much going on in Enchanted. I liked that you saw a lot of fairy tales, but overall, that just took away from the novel because you were never really sure where it was going. It was just okay, so it gets a 2 out of 5.

While I enjoyed this book to a point, it took me a bit to sort out the story - mostly the parts about Rumbold's mystery past. Which was never explained fully. I want to know what happened and why he lost his memory, and how did end up with the Pirate King and Thursday.
Still, ignoring that, it was a good story - I loved how they brought in little and noticeable facts from other fairy tales. Rumbold was just adorable, though I wish the romance was a little more... robust. Had a little more flavor. One day they were strangers and the next, bam, they're in love.
Still, it was a very interesting story, I just can't give it more then a three and a half, rounding it down to a three. Looking forward to the next story.

One word I can use to describe this book?
Magical.
Being stuck in bed for a few days near exam time fighting off migraines isn't the ideal thing in the world, you can't do anything but just worry. But after a few days I remembered that I had a few (more than a few) credits on audible from my membership and decided to take this opportunity to listen to more audio books.
Enchanted was a delight to listen to, at first I wasn't sure if I could handle the narrators perky voice for seven hours, but as the story progressed I couldn't be more delighted, it was the kind of story that needed to be narrated in such a way.
Alethea Kontis did a marvelous job! She spun so many fairy tales that we all know and love and meshed them all together... I had so much fun picking out the different stories!
In a way it made me think a lot of Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine (one of my all time favourites), it was so much fun and although probably more meant for kids, it was just so thrilling that I couldn't stop listening!
Sunday is a seventh daughter of a seventh daughter and doesn't think she is so special... but it turns out that she isn't exactly what she seems. Her sisters are all extraordinary and possess a unique talent gifted to them by their fairy godmother, a spy glass that can see the future, a simple axe to a writing pen.
They live in a tall tower with no door, but then they made a door and it now looks like a shoe. One of her sister's married a prince all because of a pea! and another is now a Pirate Queen traveling the sea's.
Throw in an evil king and fairy godmother, a frog prince, magic beans and a goose that can lay golden eggs and you have one hell of an interesting story, and this is only a small taste of what is yet to come!
The character's were lovely and I would really love to read more about them, especially Saturday! It sounds as if her story was only just beginning at the end of Sunday's and I hope that Alethea decides to write more about this magical world and amazing characters!
Even though Sunday is a seventh daughter of a seventh daughter and in her own right very powerful, some things happened at the end where I was expecting her to do something a bit more meaningful than what actually happened. It wasn't bad in the slightest and I was delighted with the conclusion... I just expected more from her.
I would love to go on, but I'm afraid everything else I would like to mention would all be big spoilers... So I highly recommend that you pick up this book, no matter what age you are and explore it for yourself, you'll be enchanted!
I'll certainly be looking forward to reading more of Alethea's books in the future!

This was a pleasant surprise. Over the summer I got this free audio of this and started to listen but didn't care for the reader. Recently I ran out of audios so I gave this another try. Once I gave this a chapter I loved it. This is such a fun book! It's a little packed - Kontis tries to cram a little too much into one book. The names of the characters are great. From the days of the week to numbers to emotions - silly names that bring nothing but joy to the reader. Sunday is a so cute it was difficult to get a handle on how old she was really was but in the scheme of things it didn't matter that much I guess. Sunday is sweet and fun and the classic fairy tale princess. Her sisters and brothers are great. Each sister reflects the rhythm with her name and I LOVE Saturday and Thursday. I want more of them. We only meet two of her brothers, Jack is spoken of often but never really in the story. Trick is a great character who is sweet and fun but not very deep.
There were some parts of this story I didn't care for - her sister Wednesday deciding to marry was so strange. She knew bad things were going to come from it yet she does it anyway. Why does Wednesday do the things she does? We don't know, all we know is that they are stupid (and we know before and as she does them and so does she!). This would have been a better book if Kontis had focused more on Sunday and just a couple of fairy tales instead of attempting bring in the numerous family members and tales.
The second book just came out and it's about one of my favorite sisters, Saturday. Saturday rocks and I'm excited to get my hands on the next book. I hope Thursday makes an appearance - she seems amazing!! Friday has a great ending in Enchanted so I hope we see more of her as well. The Woodcutters are such a great family!

Wonderful fairy tale where the frog really turns into a prince
It was a fun quick read with an interesting take on many different nursery rhymes and fairy tales!
Love how themes from traditional fairy tales are interwoven with new, original adventures and characters.
Smashing all of those stories together -- too much! I probably won't read this series beyond the 1st book.
Have you ever read a book that was so good that you regretted finishing it when you eventually got to its final page? This is one of those books for me, and right now, while I hold its sequel, I'm still sad that the story "ended".
I love the quirky characters, the well "rewritten" tales woven all over the story, as well as the promise for more. I love that I was able to ship so many characters. Am I still allowed to ship "WednesdayxVelius"? "ErikxSaturday"? Of course, no pressure, no pressure... I will be happy as long as the characters continue to be nicely written and are happy themselves.
I love the chemistry between Sunday and Rumbold (of course take what I say with a grain of salt, I'm a sucker for such romance), and I wonder if I'll see some more of that in its sequels, even though I know that the sequels will focus more on the sisters...? Thank you for giving me the pleasure of reading again. This is definitely another book that I would reread with pleasure!
(If I think of something else to add, I will haha)
