This suffers a bit from being a sequel to The Lies of Locke Lamora because it doesn't focus on the confidence games nearly as much and the pirate stuff isn't quite as interesting. Still, it's fun as hell and as well-written as the first book, Lynch continues to write compelling characters, and the climax is fucking fantastic. Looking forward to reading Republic of Thieves even more now!

pretty good, not as sad as the first one. the plot twist had too much build up for how quickly it was resolved

this is Book 2 of the Gentleman Bastard series (which you may remember me praising last month when I read the first book in that series). Still loving it - and still saying it's the 2nd best series I've read in the last 10 years (the first, of course, being The Kingkiller Chronicles - which includes such titles as The Name of the Wind, which you may remember me mentioning every time you've seen me since I read it a couple of years ago). Yes, saying it's the 2nd best series is a bold claim, but I'm sticking by it. I just started the 3rd book in the series, I'll let you know how I feel at the end of that one. This book was, again, "Ocean's 11 but more elaborate schemes in another realm" except this time there's also bonus pirates!
