I did not expect this book to be so heavy.

When i saw the cover and the mention of Heartstopper i was expecting something rather wholesome. But for the most part we follow Boo being miserable due to anxiety, loneliness and having to parent her mom.

Even so, I appreciate to see neurodivergency in books + I can always empathize with characters having family issues.

This book ends on a nasty cliffhanger, but i would read the 2nd book too.

3.25. This just might be a case of my own expectations not meeting the reality of what this book was trying to do. Picked this up at the library when I wanted something light and fluffy. Despite the art and colors, I would not describe this book as such. To me, this is really a book exploring escapism as a coping skill. One for poor mental health in general and, in the case of this story, dealing with an addicted and absent parent. There is most definitely a little romance included, but for me, I think I would have liked this more without it. The tone between plots was just hard to reconcile for me as a reader. All that said, if you go in knowing more about the story, I think it’s an important one.
