This book shows which factors shape you while growing up, but also further on in life. Growth and succes depend on the actions of the person, their circumstances and the people around them. Based on that i found this an reflective and inspiring book, but it didnt succeed in keeping my attention. Maybe biographies arent my genre. Nevertheless it's a decent book and centainly worth reading.

This is the second autobiography/memoir/biography that I've ever finished. I don't pick them up. I have no interest in them and I struggle to get through them and I learned that a long time ago. I know this about myself, so I don't even bother to look at them. However, this book made the rounds on social media and I really wanted to read it. Even more so when people were saying how great it is and how wonderful the audiobook is. I also don't do audiobooks because I have problems processing things auditorily. I have to sit and do absolutely nothing and concentrate on the words and even then, I still have problems. I can visually read much faster.

So I've been slowly chugging along with this book. I didn't mind because I wanted to savor it. I really enjoyed reading it while I was reading it. I underlined and tabbed. However, when I would put it down, I just didn't feel like picking it back up. It isn't the book, it's me. I knew it would take me awhile to get through it, but I didn't want to give up. Then one day I decided to do a puzzle and on a whim looked on my library's catalog to see if the audiobook was available. It was and when I gave it a try I found I could listen and do the puzzle and still pay attention! So I finished this book in two audiobook sittings with two different puzzles.

I loved hearing Michelle narrate her own book. It adds emotion and depth hearing her say the words. The downside though is that I didn't get to do all that underlining and tabbing and so the last half of my physical copy is sadly empty of all those colorful tabs. I also don't know how well I'll retain the parts I listened to. My memory is visual and I won't have a page with words to remember.

This book covers her life from childhood up through leaving the White House. I thought her story was interesting and inspiring. Her words both uplifted me and saddened me. I swooned over her relationship with Barack and cried over her losses and the shit she had to go through while in the public eye. I can't believe the range of emotions I had from a memoir! I cannot recommend this book enough. It left me with the feeling that I would just love to hang out with these two. Maybe be invited to a dinner and just chat. I'm sure I'm not the only who left this book feeling this way. It almost makes me want to tackle Barack Obama's behemoth of an autobiography... almost. That will have to be for another day or maybe a year or two from now.
