Let me start this review with one important note: I'm not into superheroes. I don't care about superheroes and I don't like superheroes. I don't like magical cures. I don't like this ongoing good versus evil thing in superhero stories and I hate the huge amount of too perfect men and women in suits barely covering their identity.

So, you understand the low expectations I had when starting this book. I mean, Sarah J. Maas is the most amazing writer in the world, but I was convinced that even she would not make it possible for me to look past all those superhero nonsense I don't care one bit about. And I couldn't be more wrong.

I really loved this book and the slight miracle Sarah J. Maas pulled when bringing Gotham City, it's heroes and it's villains to life. Just like all her books her brilliant writing style makes everything, the city and the people, feel so vivid and real that even I started to believe for a short moment that all of this was possible.

During the book I fell in love with bad ass Selena, who can clearly keep up with the other female heroes Sarah J. Maas created in her books and is known for. But, she also made me fall for the side characters in her story. Especially Poison Ivy, although she didn't have the biggest role, touched something in me, that much that I'd love for Sarah J. Maas to write an entire book on her.

Of course, the book did contain a few of the superhero tropes that I'm not that fond of. Especially the ending was not exactly my taste, personally, but I understand that it's simply part of the story and something that couldn't have been done any differently in this genre and this world. I'm also sure I missed a lot of nods and remarks and background to fully understand everything.

But nonetheless, this was a memorable read and amazingly well written and I can't wait for more new Sarah J. Maas material! If she can make me love a superhero/supervillain story, she can make me love anything.

I just don't think Sarah J. Maas is a very good author. This started off pretty good, but by the end I couldn't get past her quirks enough to enjoy it.

I have been slowly making my way through this DC book series. First with Wonder Woman back in 2016(I think) and now with Catwoman. I have always been intrigued by DC and Gotham, but I never really gave the movies a try because I’m use to marvel. Story/character wise the two companies are fairly similar. I was excited to read about Catwoman and her backstory, while there was a good bit, Harley and Ivy came in and stole the show. Which isn’t a bad thing. I was beginning to wonder when they were show up in this series that is supposed to be about DC heros. The next one on my list is Superman and I cannot wait to get his POV.
