When I finally decided to read hunting Lila I had just given up my search for a decent paranormal young adult fiction...all of them seemed to have an unnecessary forbidden romance as the main theme...do after this book had been sitting on my to-read shelf I thought lets just finish this as well. But boy this was just what I was looking for! Actully in the starting Lila sounded quite kiddish and absolutely obsessed with Alex but as the book really picked up for me when her ability was revealed. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I really hope the series doesn't turn out to be disappointing because of some stupid love triangle or something. It really stands out in the massive ocean of stereotypical clićhed paranormal romances.

I'm so glad that I've finally finished the book! Not to say that it was terrible, but I felt like the story was dragged out longer than it should have. I had to wait until the half-way mark until I finally read about Lila telling Alex and Jack. The first half was just fluff, I didn't need it. The routines, how much she loves Alex, stalking Alex, her past, her being nosy. It was all unnecessary. I liked the story line, but I wasn't crazy about it. It kept my attention well enough, but it's nothing that I would recommend to anyone. I felt like there needed to be more variety in the powers that the various members displayed. It was a fun enough read, nothing that I would venture for again. I doubt I will pick up the next one.

What is there to say about Hunting Lila? It is an interesting mix of paranormal, science fiction and romance (focusing heavily on the latter), featuring an exciting cast of side characters and a (sometimes a little bratty) heroine with a (rather cool) superpower she doesn't dare tell anyone about. Let's say X-Men meets romantic comedy.

I did like Hunting Lila, especially the second half, enough to be interested in reading the sequel. I did not love it, though, for several reasons.

First off, the standard "We can't tell you because it's too dangerous for you". No, thank you. I just can't stand it. Especially when it turns into "I will tell you a little bit so that you are even more curious, but I just can't tell you everything, sorry". Gaaah! It makes me want to bang my head against a wall.

Then, Lila herself. Sometimes, she had an affinity to sulk a little too much, to come across as a spoiled brat. She wasn't angry without reason, and I understood her frustration when not being told the truth, but some of the decisions she made just weren't that … thought through. They made her seem young for her seventeen years. Still, I felt with her and I can't say her faults made me dislike her in any way. They made me roll my eyes sometimes, but then a few pages later, I would be furious on her behalf.

Another thing – the romance. Okay, Alex is hot. He is swoonworthy (seriously, I think this was the first book I ever read that actually used the word swoonworthy itself to describe a character). He has a great chest. He has amazing blue eyes. Was it mentioned that he's hot?? Yes? Okay, just to make it clear: He is hot.
Eh, yes. Thank you. I got it. Not that I have anything against hot male characters in books, but please, I would like to see for myself. I do not want to be told every five pages. Lila and Alex definitely had chemistry, and I just love their kind of love story, but that killed the thing for me in parts. Also, slight evidence of "It is not right for us to be together" syndrome. But he got over it pretty quickly ;). All in all, as I might add, the book was a just bit too heavy on physical description. And of course everyone was beautiful. Tsk. What else.

You notice that I have quite some things to complain about. Still, I was thoroughly entertained. I loved some of the side characters introduced towards the end, and I was definitely glued to the pages during the fast-paced last third of the book. This book is not particularly deep, but it was positively a lot of fun to read.

Random thoughts: For those of you who have read it, do you remember that one scene fairly at the beginning when Lila wakes up, goes down to the kitchen and finds Alex there? They make tea. She puts the kettle on the stove. They talk. They decide to got to bed. The kettle is never mentioned again. Am I just too blind to notice what happened to their tea? If not, I'm glad the house didn't burn down.

Review Taken From The Pewter Wolf

Am going to be honest, I wouldn't have known this book existed if it wasn't for Wondrous Reads. In one of her blog posts or one of her tweets (I can’t remember which), she revealed the cover and I fell in love with it. I thought it was striking, simple and mysterious. I think it was those red shoes. Striking, no? After tweeting her, I was excited about this book so, when Kathryn from Simon & Schuster emailed me, asking if I would want to review this book, I jumped at the chance. How could I not?

Lila has two secrets that she is willing to hide. Her first is that she has the power of telekinetic - of being able to move obejcts with her minds. So, when she is violently mugged and she exposes her power, she jumps on a plane to goes the only safe place she can think of: being with her brother, Jack, and his best friend, Alex. And here, we have her second secret: Lila has been in love with Alex her whole life. As Lila tries to keep both her secrets hidden, she discovers that both Jack and Alex are members of a military unit and they have been gathering information about her mother's murder which happened five year ago. And, by the looks of it, they know who it is…

But soon, the lines blur: who is the hunter and who is the hunted? What is the truth and what is a lie? Who can be trusted and who should be feared? And if Lila isn't careful, the lives of the people she loves will be put at risk…

Right, how do I review this without gushing? Yeah, this is one of those books where I could very easily gush. So, am keeping myself in check. And that make writing this oh-so-very-hard!

It's a typical, yet not-so-much a typical YA book. For a start, most of the story isn't set in school or on holiday. It's set near a military base. A nice change from boarding schools or towns in the middle of nowhere!

Also, you have a love story where you are screaming at the Lila to act on her impulsives and yet, you completely understand why she won't. And, because of that and her reaction to her power, she completely relate to her. She's a typical teenager and yet she is thrown completely into a non-typical situation.

And as for Alex… I was tweeted by Daisy Chain Books and was told that her heart is in torment as Alex was fighting it out with Jay from the Body Finder series (a series I adore! If you haven't read it, investigate it now!) for best ficitional boyfriend.

This is one of those YA books that is an addictive read, and it's a perfect summer read to have while by the pool. And there's a sequel on the way (YES!) and the author is writing a new series that will come out in January 2012 called Fated, which I am now very excited over. If it's anything like Hunting Lila, then I am going have to have to get my hands on this…!

So, it's a YA, paranormal read with a huge dollop of thriller and romantic. Perfect! This was a wonderful debut novel! I demand more! And I demand more steamy-ness (which I've been told will happen…)! At once!

I've been seeing Hunting Lila everywhere since before its release in August and had never really looked into it, as soon as I read the synopsis a while ago I quickly clicked open the book depository and bought it straight away, shocked and shamed that I hadn't done so before. I couldn't wait to start reading this awesome sounding book.

What sold me?

Well first the cover.. I want her shoes, they look so pretty! But not only that attracted me, but I guess that I've had a thing for stories about a main character with a crush on their brothers best friend since I was a teen (and made me wish my evil brother had hot friends haha), also not only did it have that, but add in a murder, mystery and psychic powers! All that together in one neat little awesome package and you had me SOLD!

Lila is a fantastic character, I loved watching her reactions to everything, especially where Alex was concerned, it was so cute and funny.

Alex... *fans self* seriously that is one steamingly hot sexy sexy man! (where can I get one!?)

Jack, Lila's brother was pretty adorable. Which leads me to a question I want to ask - do you have a brother like Jack or know someone who does? Just a curiosity of mine to see if anyone has an older brother who is over-protective? (I have a twin brother and he would hand me over gift-wrapped with a big smile on his face to any bad guys!)

I also loved Suki, she was so completely crazy which was awesome, (I just want to give her a big hug) I can't wait to see more of her in book two.

So many things happened in Hunting Lila, things that I expected and things that I didn't, I can't wait until Losing Lila comes out in August 2012, so many things can happen and I'm bursting at the seams to find out what! Its going to be a long impatient wait! (but at least we have a new book by Sarah coming out in the meantime, which sounds to be equally thrilling as Lila was! Make sure you check out Fated! Which will be out in January - Can't wait!)

It's so hard to write this review without spoiling anything and give justice to the absolute amazing world that Sarah has created!

Sarah Alderson is definitely an author to watch out for, Hunting Lila is going into my favourites and I'll be pursuing all of Sarah's books in the future! If you Haven't read Hunting Lila yet, make sure you do!

[Read more at my blog, Geeky Reading!]

So this book is only available in the UK? I thought that it was published over in the US, but I guess only the e-book is. Right? Because I couldn’t find it anywhere, and ended up getting it from the marketplace. I don’t really understand why it hasn’t been brought over here, as it seems like something that US readers would like. It’s been on my list ever since I heard about it, which was a couple of years ago, I think around the time it was released in the UK. Either way, I bought it online, and read it really soon after receiving it.

And I really liked it. This book surprised me on several fronts, the characters upset me and frustrated me several times, but overall I really liked it. And want the next book very soon.

I liked Lila. I understood Lila, and related to her a bit. She’s feisty, and she’s scared with very good reason, but she doesn’t give in when she doesn’t believe she should. I really liked her relationship with her brother, Jack, but I have a soft spot for brother-sister relationships. They get along really well, even though Jack frustrated me on several points, particularly with not telling Lila things. Then there’s Alex, who I am a rather big fan of. I loved his relationship with Lila, a whole lot. They get along so well, and they were so cute, I just really liked them together. I just did.

But then there’s the issue with neither of them telling Lila anything, when they really should have. That always happens, and I suppose there was some reason with it being possibly against the rules to Unit, but I don’t care. That’s not okay. She needed to know. Especially when she became a part of it.

And I loved her part in it, and understood why she was so scared, because she had good reason. Especially when Alex and Jack reacted like they did, those jerks. I was not happy with their reactions, even if they kind of had their reasons.

And then Lila meets the people who are like her, people with odd powers/abilities, who are also being hunted, and that was a big surprise to me. I wasn’t expecting it for some reason, and I really liked that. I really liked how that turned out, for all of them. Although that led to the ending, and I did not like that. The ending was horrible, a huge cliffhanger. Which makes me want the next book all the more. I hope to get it soon.

The powers element of the book I really liked, and was fun to read about, because of how it was handled, and the variety. The writing was good, and kept me interested. I was turned off at first to the fact that the author uses just an apostrophe instead of quotation marks for dialogue, but I got used to it quickly. And it’s opened me up to reading other books that do that, so I guess that’s good, even if I’m still not a huge fan.

Overall, I really liked this book. It was surprising, fun, I liked the characters a lot, and it was a quick read. I hope to get the next one, and others by Alderson, hopefully soon.

Oh gosh this book is definitely not for me. I enjoy cute romance but not some dreadfully annoying obsession...

The girl is desperately fixated on her crush to the point of being unheathly ~ please stop!!

99.9% of this book is about an obsessive girl lusting after her crush , pratically no place left for the main plot.

The girl has no sense whatsoever of the danger she is in or the danger she puts her close ones in! All she does every second is wondering about her crush and lusting after him!! Girl, calm down! There's a pack of killers about to ambush you, stop dreaming about having sex with the guy!!
