From the personal sadness of the loss of her mother, her only close relative, to the wider grief and horror that has become life in Venezuela, Adelaida does what she has to do to survive. Very well done and hard to read at times.

This feels like “White Latinos” the book. IDK lots of weirdness about body size, skin color, and emphasis on certain characters being Spanish (aka they are Europeans as opposed to being Venezuelan). Not for me.

A story about revolution and violence in Caracas and one woman's "rebirth" in order to survive. It is a quick read, filled with the everyday violences that leave you breathless-people being carried away for protesting never to be heard from again, teargassed every night, and the sheer desperation of trying to survive.

The setting and environment that the main character, Adelaide, is in clearly shows why it would be night in Caracas. But I did feel like the story was missing a little something. Not too sure what exactly but with the flashbacks and Adelaide’s actions, I felt the craving for something more.

I’m glad I read this book, it did make me think on different themes from who gets to live, power dynamics, and suffering.
