I love re-reading this book! It's well paced, mysterious, and I love the detail in it. i thought the twist would be boring, but I was actually kinda shocked at it. the only thing other thing I want is for the otherworld to be explored more, maybe in a sequel?!

Beautifully written - if a bit repetitive in descriptions.
Unique take on purgatory, or at least unlike anything I've read.
I wish there was more to the story of who Grey, Vivi, and Iris were before...it felt a bit like a cop-out for the author to abandon a backstory/motive for Grey to have done what she did, and unfortunately, I saw the reveal that was actually presented, coming relatively early on. A backstory was vital to maintain surprise for me as a reader, so it was disappointing for Grey to "not remember".

"I'd realized there were scarier things in the world than the monsters that lived in my nightmares."
- Krystal Sutherland (House of Hollow)
Grey, Vivi and Iris, the three Hollow sisters dissapeared as children on New Year's Eve in Edinburgh, only to reappear a month later, with dark eyes, white hair and a moon-like scar at the base of their neckline. None of them can remember what happened, but when Grey (the oldest of the three) vanishes again after a decade, Iris and Vivi have no choice but to follow the clues left behind by their sister to get her back... Even if that means digging into horrors of the past they aren't ready for...
The prose in this book was beautiful, intoxicating even. The Hollow sisters are interesting characters, each with an entirely different personally, but the love and bond they share is unconditional.
This story (told from the pov of Iris, the youngest and kindest sister) starts out as a glamorous adventure, with the mystery of what happened to the sisters when they were younger lingering beneath, and transpires into a dark and gruesome tale of horror, death and decay...
While I absolutely loved this gothic horror novel, the pacing was a bit odd at times. The whole ordeal takes place in less than a week?? And I wasn't satisfied with the ending completely.
Love, Melissa

i have such mixed feelings about this book like i loved this but at times i was bored and also didn’t like it so i don’t really know how to feel. i am sad i didn’t like this as much as i thought i would. i couldn’t care enough for the characters except for tyler yang which doesn’t even have that many chapters where he appears. i will say though i def enjoyed the last few chapters a bit more than the beginning. i did enjoy the beginning somewhat but it also felt super fast that i couldn’t understand what was going on. at time the writing felt like it was talking about one thing that immediately switching to something completely different that i just didn’t understand what i was reading until after a while. will say tho i kind of predicted this whole book almost from the beginning so when the reveal happened i was just like oh i already knew this was going to happen which isnt necessarily bad but idk. i will also say one thing i loved is how creepy and eerie this was i loved that so much.
