Loved the book on the first read and still love it on the re read. If you want a morally gray fmc, and for once, a blonde shadow daddy, then this is your book.
Rory and caius are one of my favourite couples and I will ship them for all time.

Too much telling. It kept me from immersing myself in what was going on or relate to the character.

5⭐️

No notes. I devoured this book.

“Everyone does bad things. Yes, some are worse than others and deserve a fate worse than death, but most are only trying to navigate life and all it throws at them. Never discount yourself for your flaws.”

How dare Jamie leave this book on such a cliffhanger!!

4⭐️ Really liked it! Highly recommend.

Read this if you like a vengeful FMC imprisoned with a golden haired shadow daddy who can’t decide if he wants to hurt her or have her.

Hm, this was different than what I had expected. For one I thought this would be darker, for another I expected this to have more of a fantasy setting...for some reason. The world is very similar to our own only there are mythical beings running around (shapeshifters, angels), I mean there are a lot of different beings but I don't know I think there could have been done more with it. Coming back to the world building it was very normal(?), it felt urban fantasy like but I don't think there are any humans in it.
Regarding the darkness when you are told Rory is a serial killer on a revenge spree who wants seeks a being who has trapped her sister's soul in a jar, I had expected more high stakes, intrigue, betrayal and it wasn't what I had expected. Once you got over the tiny bit of killing at the beginning, the rest of the book was much tamer in tone.
Also Caius felt like a "soft Hades", you know when in Hades and Persephone retellings people assume Hades is the big bad and the souls are suffering in this but his realm is kinda chill and everyone is acttually happy, like that. I guess, it could taken notes from that myth and made it their own, there are similarities (the heroine having to stay in the "dark rulers" realm but instead of the underworld it is a prison). Speaking of Caius-who-is-kind-and-has-a-sweettooth there's also the enforcer of his army who also is sneaking food (like a breadroll here, randomly pulling out a banana out of his pants and eating it there). They didn't seem that scary/badass.
I have been so often disappointed by books I find on bookstagram, that this was a pleasant enough. It wasn't what I had expected, not perfect, but it was an alright read.

I loved this book. The way it was written and the book cover had me intrigued.  Can't wait to read book 2.!
