Didn't like the writing style. Also too slow paced
mysterious
I'll lead with the bottom line first: this wasn't bad, and I don't recommend it.
Throughout the first 60% of this book, I kept thinking about how annoying it was that I was entering a reading slump. Turns out it was just the first 60% of the book. After that, the real action happens, and its pace feels like what the entire book should have been all along.
I'm easily fooled with mystery books - a blatant piece of evidence can be revealed and I'll still be shocked when it comes up later in the resolution - and this story was no different. There were twists. There were elements of the plot where I thought "Well...I guess I've never read this kind of twist before. Interesting." There are parts that seem to come out of nowhere or without a transition. Personally I enjoyed the writing style, but I'm also one who enjoys literary fiction and some thought behind the writing. If you're hoping for something that reads like the equivalent of guzzling sodas and eating your way through bags of chips, this probably isn't for you.
If you have the patience to wait a couple hours before something happens and you enjoy more dense prose, maybe you'll find yourself making it to the end of this story.
