Stupidly overlong and over complex. The writer is deeply in love with his own cleverness, which is a particular shame as this writing is not that clever.

Wow!!  What did I just read?  This was awful. It’s a mix of character development and plot development, but the writing was just awful. Choppy and disjointed. Atmosphere descriptions were far too verbose and, frankly, boring. Where was the editor?  Painfully slow plotline. My belief that this was an homage to the writing style of great detective/mystery novels of the past. It had the vibe of an Agatha Christie or even Arthur Conan Doyle’s “Sherlock Holmes” novels, but he failed in developing strong and likable characters, or even a smooth story; BIG homage fail...completely slow and futile. seriously, where was your editor, AJ Finn?  This is simply not worth your time, because we all know you have a HUGE TBR pile that justifies your precious time.

I'm not going to lie, I was absolutely bored to tears reading this. I thought about giving up several times, but kept thinking maybe the end will be worth it. It wasn’t. I struggled with the writing style, and I also struggled with the fact that the POV switched between chapters and there was nothing to say who was now speaking.
This was my first by this author and honestly, it's made me nervous reading Woman in the Window now.

The book was a slow burn which I normally don't enjoy but I personally really liked the writing, which felt almost poetic at times. The mystery in itself was compelling and the characters were believable and - at times - really witty.
