I rarely read New Adult, especially books set in college. NA seems to be all about drama and angst, and that's not usually my cup of tea. But I actually really enjoyed this book. It was light and witty. It dealt with different issues college students might face (learning disabilities, sexual harassment, etc) in a positive way. We had opposites attract. We got a little hockey which I always enjoy. NA still isn't a sub-genre I want to delve into often, but if I do, I'll definitely give another Elle Kennedy book a try.

4.2 ⭐️’s Honestly my fave out of the Off Campus and Briar U universe so far. Fitz is so dreamy and amazing and I resonate with Summer so much. I see qualities that we share which made me like her so much. When they finally decided to get together their relationship was sooo cute and every time I read something I thought “I want that” which I think often when I read book but ya know.

After reading the other 5 books, and getting to know Colin Fitzgerald, I was really looking forward to reading this book. I didn't know how I was going to feel about Summer, since she's not near as big of a side character until Dean's book anyways. I did end up enjoying her more than I thought I would. The enemies to lovers trope came into play a little bit here, which I didn't quite expect. I did think it helped develop their relationship though, so when things finally did come to a boiling point, it made a lot of sense. I would read this again, hence the 4 stars, but that also has a lot to do with Elle Kennedy's writing style.

MAN OH MAN do I love Colin Fitzgerald.
Hockey? Check.
Tattoos? CHECK.
Nerdy vibes? Check.
Brothers Friend? Checkity Check.
He checks all my boxes and, while having a very jerkish moment while trying to fight and deny his feeling for Summer, once he stops fighting it and goes for her.... mhmmm.
Summer and Colin are a perfect pair once they get past their differences.

I bought this entire series because of Jacob Morgan’s sound clip used on TikTok. “…It’s Dean. As in Summer’s brother Dean.”
Miscommunication/no communication trope isn’t my favorite, but Summer’s characteristics and mistakes made are very relatable.

I think this was overhyped for me. I mean, it was fine. There were parts I liked more than others. I wasn't sure how much I'd like Summer/Fitz at the beginning because it wasn't the type of romance set-up I typically get into, but I loved the confrontation when she tells him she heard what he said and the immediate aftermath where he's genuinely sorry and the awkwardness. But unfortunately that was basically the only part where I was into the romance. I liked Summer, but Fitz was more difficult for me to sympathize with. I got tired of him being a dick to Summer and avoiding her . And I felt so terrible for Hunter! Sure, he and Summer weren't in a serious relationship, or even a real relationship, and he didn't ~own Summer, but it was still shitty that Fitz didn't tell him what was going on from the beginning. Hunter was much less of a dick to Summer than Fitz was, so I found myself rooting for him even though I knew she obviously wasn't going to end up with him.
The pacing was also a little weird. Like, once they get together, they're basically just together straight through the end, but it felt like either it should've ended sooner or something more should've happened. The romance development as well suffered a bit, I think. It jumped too fast once they got together, and I never felt I really see them jump from attraction to love, so when Fitz first mentioned loving Summer, I was like, "…really?" I also hated everything to do with Nora. I think we were supposed to be on Summer's side, but Summer was a bitch to Nora too just for dating Fitz before she had even interacted with her. And the whole thing with bringing up Coco Chanel being a Nazi sympathizer twice was weird. I think we were supposed to be on Summer's side, but, I mean, no? Nora wasn't wrong, and considering the resurgence of white supremacists in the U.S. today, I don't think it's a bad thing to point out what Coco Chanel did and condemn it, but Summer was weirdly eye-roll-y about it, like Nora was just bringing it up to make Summer look bad, which, maybe she was, but again, she wasn't wrong! And it would've been fine if Summer had just said something like, "Yes, but she's dead now, and I still admire her designs," or "She was still a great influence on my fashion sense," or something rather than just dismissing it. idk, the whole thing was just odd and definitely did not make me side with Summer, and I don't know why it was included because it never came up again after that.
I liked the Summer/Brenna friendship a lot — it was pretty much my favorite part of the book. Unfortunately not really much else. I know I remember liking the first couple books in the other series set in this world (although I only read the first two, I believe, and didn't go any further), but it's been awhile, and tbh I've never been a huge fan of New Adult romances (there are some that I do love, but I'm very picky about them), and I think recently I've especially not been in the mood for New Adult, so some of this was just my personal mood and this just not being for me rather than the book being garbage. But I wanted to like this a lot because everyone else seemed to think it was amazing, and I just thought it was okay. Not sure if I'll read any more in this series. If I do, I'll make sure to wait until I'm actually in the mood for a New Adult romance.
