Previous books of Tessa Dare prove that historical romance with humor can exist. For so long I denied myself historical romance books because so many were dry and put me to sleep. But Dare continues to give me hope that I can find my area in this genre. When a Scot Ties the Knot is the story of Madeline and Logan, two people who should have never met unless fate intervened. No really, it’s all fate, it has to be. Because here’s the thing, Madeline is awkward and feels more comfortable with her family and drawings then being presented at the local balls. To stop this from happening, she invented a sweetheart: Captain MacKenzie. What Madeline doesn’t expect is Captain MacKenzie to be a real person. She was writing these letters assuming no one would ever get them, but to know that not only someone got them, but that they also read them? She wants to die.
She loved to draw anything. Well, almost anything. She hated drawing attention to herself. —2%, eARC
On the other side of this equation is Logan, the Captain MacKenzie. A man who knows that he doesn’t deserve love since his parents abandoned him and he was used for others gains since then. The fact that someone even wrote to him caused him pain and anguish in the service, but he doesn’t care now. What he cares about is the fact he now has land for his formed family. And as someone who loves formed families, those you make for yourself, I loved that Dare included this into the story. It is so important to find and chose your only family.
She now had a confidant. A Conspirator. Someone who knew everything. All her secrets. He didn’t love her for them, but he hadn’t run screaming from her, either. –19%, eARC
To gain this land of course the two of them must not only marry, but also consummate the relationship and I adored that Maddie did not make it easy for him. There was so much banter, and learning about each other that my heart constantly soared for these two characters. Both of whom just wanted to be loved, but also wanted to stay themselves, who they viewed as unloveable. (They viewed themselves as unloveable. Not the other one. Even if they couldn’t admit it. They very, very much loved the other one.)
She flinched at his words. He knew at once he’d hurt her. And it didn’t feel nearly as satisfying as he’d hoped it would. It made him feel rather small, actually. Like a boy caught winging rocks at songbirds. —45%, eARC
What was also enjoyable about When a Scot Ties the Knot is the fact that, while the relationship wasn’t easy, it was believable. Through the cast of secondary characters, as the reader I felt like I was in the highland with those characters. Between Logan’s clan and Maddie’s aunt, you could feel the love that these characters had throughout the novel. Although denial ran strong throughout those two characters, it made sense for the story.
Grant is my favorite person. Do you know why? He made me feel beautiful on my wedding day. No matter how many times we’re introduced, he’s always impressed. He makes me laugh. —74%, eARC
I cannot wait to continue reading Tessa Dare’s backlist as I continue to love the way she writes stories.

Tessa Dare gave me my first taste of the awesomeness that is historical romance, so she and her books will always hold a special place in my heart. I absolutely adored the first two books in the Castles Ever After series – Romancing the Duke and Say Yes to the Marquess. It was actually because of THIS BOOK that I decided to give historical romance a try at all, though. (Thank you Edelweiss and Avon Books.) I was intrigued by the blurb (and the cover) and didn't want to read the series out of order, so I snagged the first two books from Amazon. I'm so glad I did, too. Tessa's books are lighthearted, romantic, sexy as can be and funny. They're such a joy to read.
When a Scot Ties the Knot drew me in from the very first page with the letters to the (then) fictional Captain MacKenzie. I loved Maddie's voice and her humor. The letters were the perfect way to set the stage for a wonderful story. When the real Captain Logan MacKenzie arrives, I knew Maggie had met her match. I loved their banter and their more serious moments. The sexy times were hot and swoony. Maggie and Logan were golden together. I enjoyed reading as they got to know each other, faced down issues from their own pasts and forged ahead, together.
I read When a Scot Ties the Knot in one sitting and quickly added to to my list of books to reread sometime soon. Since it's available in audio, I think I'll do it that way. It could be a fun audiobook. No matter how I decide to go about it, I'm sure this will be a book I read over and over again going forward. It was just that much fun to read the first time.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via Edelweiss, in exchange for an honest review.

This was one of my first favorite historical romance reads and I've wanted to reread it for ages. I finally said, "there's no time like the present" and dived right on in. Books don't always hold up when you reread them 5 or 6 years after they're pubbed, but I'm thrilled to say this one did. I loved Logan and Maddie so much. I was hooked from the first letters she wrote to the imaginary Captain Mackenzie and, well, as soon as she opened the door for the mysterious stranger, it was on. I couldn't get enough. And oh the feels towards the end! I didn't even realize I was crying until the first tear hit the fabric I was cutting while I was listening to the audiobook. I have all the warm, gooey, swoony feels after rereading.
A colleague of mine enjoys Tessa Dare books, so this is one that she recommended to me. It did get off to a humorous start which grabbed my attention out of the gate. It definitely was a different and unexpected twist than anything I have ever read. I liked the story and the characters. I especially liked that the main character, although, hampered by shyness was a strong woman who sought to have a career as an illustrator which was unusual for women of that time. For those who don't like things spicy, be forewarned, though, that this does have some spice.

This was a lot of fun. From the wild premise to the lobsters. I really enjoy how Tessa Dare gives her FMC interesting and sort of uncommon occupational and academic interests - in this case, scientific naturalist illustrator.
This was also a sweet book too, with Maddie's PTSD and anxiety, and Logan's emotional trauma. As she always does, I loved how Tessa Dare wrote them helping and really seeing each other. Their love story was very sweet and full of care. I also enjoyed Logan's men, and how they were a sort of found family and even the more challenging aspects of that, like Grant's short term memory loss, were accepted. And Maddie's aunt! I want a story about her 😄
Love the setting of Invernesshire too, since I could picture it! The castle on the cover looks like Eilean Donan Castle 😆

this was cute, i loved it!! i wish i had a sexy smug Scottish man to come claim me (in a consensual, feminist way). you can find me in the highlands from here on out✌
Very good book, although completely far-fetched (as far as a romance book go of course). I liked the two main characters very much, as well as all the secondary ones and I was very grateful to the author for having written the epilogue for each of them. Too bad there is only one book left in the series now....

cute! liked the layered reveals of the letters. lots of fake outs near the end, didn't like the sudden danger.
