Clearly a first book for both; while it was filled with interesting anecdotes about thefts, continual asides of dry historical information and a failure to thoroughly discuss changes in museum security made it disjointed and often repetitive.
informative slow-paced

My former boss co-wrote this once, actually. Felt there was too much information for one book, I think it would have served much better as two or even three books.

This is an absolutely delightful book. It is part Rembrandt's biography and history and part a history of famous and not so famous heists of Rembrant's works. The book really moves along and is very well written. It kept me interested all the way through. At times the interspersing of Rembrandt's biography with the heists of his work seemed a tad forced -- but only a tad. On the whole this book is just wonderful. I highly recommend it.

Great fun to learn about the history of art heists and about Rembrandt as a painter. Learned all kinds of odd facts- there's a painting that's been stolen from a museum in Dulwich England, four times! Dubbed, affectionately, the Takeaway Rembrandt. Heh. And etchings are easier to steal than paintings (no surprise there.) Surprised to learn that art crime doesn't seem to have changed all that much in the digital age. Still a heist is a good old fashioned heist.
