I recently watched “Under the Silver Lake.” This and that are fascinating complimentary pieces.

I started this book nearly twenty years ago but never finished it. For some reason lately I had a nagging feeling to finish it. Although I can relate to other peoples feelings about it seeming too pious or contrived (since I echoed those same sentiments years and years ago) I have to say this time around was quite different for me. It offered some insight and inspiration that were lovely to hear at this moment in my life. And for that purpose this novel is without question invaluable to me now. I suppose that it simply the ebb and flow of life.

I enjoyed this fable very much. Though I'm not a religious person myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the mysticism and the intertwining of Islam and Christianity. It made me want to read both more of Coelho as well as more religious history. Jeremy Irons read the book beautifully, and it was just a perfectly simple and rewarding read.

4.25 stars. This book started off fantastically; the story of chasing your dreams and fate etc. was appealing to me, and I loved the setting. The language was lyrical and I really enjoyed reading it. What brought it down in my estimations slightly was when the protagonist meets Fatima, as I felt the whole message the book had been promoting up until them takes a huge hit at that point, and it became tiresome reading about how much he loved her. However, it redeemed itself at the end, and while I noted that many people did not like the ending, I thought it was genius.
