The language in this early novel is like a lovely cup of good coffee, complex and engaging. The plot picks up and moves along well about half-way through. The plot is entertaining, and the language is mentally satisfying. Nice job, Old Horace. When’s the sequel? Lol

The first gothic novel, while at times frustrating, was an overwhelmingly enjoyable read full of over the top moments and delightful bouts of the supernatural. Worth reading for any fan of the Gothic novel.

I got suckered in by the cover of the Oxford World's Classics edition and an overly positive description on both Goodreads and Thriftbooks. This book does not hold up well at all, and feels ridiculously long for a book that is less than 150 pages.

The storyline is really interesting. First, when I started reading the book, I didn't like it much. but as the story proceeds, it comes with adventures and a lot of twists. I will recommend everyone to read it.

i’m surprised by how much i enjoyed this! reading it for my gothic lit course definitely made me appreciate it more
