There is no way I can write a cohesive review for this right now. Maybe later. When I'm not sobbing into my pillow. But now, I'll leave you with this:

this book broke me

THERE ARE MONSTERS IN THE SEA

Damn she treated her parents horribly

”You shouldn’t have to kill yourself for your art. No matter how many fans you have.”

”All art is subconscious.”

”Our stories have lives of their own——and it’s up to us to make them mean something.”

3/5 Stars

"I made Monstrous Sea because it's the story I wanted. I wanted a story like it, and I couldn't find one, so I created it myself."

This was just ok for my. I found myself really bored, and I really think the novel did not need to be almost 400 pages long. What the book was supposed to be about didn't happen until the last 100 pages, and by that point I feel like it was really rushed to be wrapped up.
Something that I didn't like was that I felt annoyed by Eliza. I thought she was so annoying, but I loved Wallace...until Eliza's identity was revealed. Then it switched. I loved Eliza and didn't love Wallace. He got really annoying and I was really angry at him. The parents were fine, but we always see perfect parents in a relationship, and I want something different.
Something that annoyed me for some reason was that Eliza's younger brothers did not seem to act their age. They are supposed to be 13 and 14, but until that was mentioned, I thought they were like 10 and 11. Maybe younger. That just annoyed me.
One thing that made me anxious was that Eliza's best friends are on the internet, and it made me anxious because they knew her address, and sent her things, but she had never seen their faces as far as I knew. It just made me anxious because I was constantly worried that something would happen because it was online and you normally have to be cautious when talking to people online.
I will say a trigger warning that I have never seen is that there is a character that deals with suicidal thoughts. Just be cautious of that.

This was a well written book. It is a cute read with some heavier parts in it. It is a quick read that’s also a high school romance but with a twist. I enjoyed the double identity and the internal conflict. I also enjoyed the deeper parts. It made me feel a lot and was a great change from typical high school romance books. Highly recommend if you want some laughter, some tears, some romance, and some heartache.
