I absolutely LOVED this book so much!! I really fell in love with Eliza and Wallace's relationship. I love how relatable Eliza and her anxiety is to me. Francesca wrote a fantastic book and I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great read. Definitely going to be one of my favorite reads of 2017!!
4.5
I wanted a little light YA to read as a break from a fewer intense novels, so I picked this up. It was so much better than I thought it would be! It reminded me of Fangirl in the best ways possible. Definitely a YA must read.

"Truth is the worst monster, because it never really goes away."

This book was everything I didn't know I wanted it to be. This book took me pleasantly by surprise and I want to shove this book into people's hands when they ask for a good book to read. Everyone needs to read this book.
I instantly connected with Eliza. I understood her. I understood her actions, her feelings, her reactions to situations. I saw a lot of myself in her. She prefers fictional characters, prefers her online friends over people at her school. Monstrous Sea is her escape from the real world. She gets so into the world she created, and that's something any reader can connect to.
"MirkerLurker: I thought the characters were the reason anyone read Monstrous Sea.
rainmaker: You mean like, shipping?
MirkerLurker: No, not shipping - shipping's great, and I do it all the time, but I mean... the characters themselves. The struggles they have to go through, and when you really love them, how much they affect you. When the characters are good, they make you care about everything else. That's why I draw them. It probably sounds dumb, but they're like real people to me. And this will probably sound worse, but sometimes I like them better than real people. I can empathize with characters. Real people are harder."
There is absolutely no insta-love, which I loved so much. I loved seeing Eliza's and Wallace's friendship grow. I loved seeing them connect with each other. I loved seeing them bond over common interests and fandoms. I just really liked seeing them interact with each other.
Throughout the story, we get shown bits an pieces of Monstrous Sea . AND I LOVED IT. I thought it was really cool how she incorporated it into the story. If Zappia ever publishes it as its own graphic novel, I would buy that sucker the second it comes out.
It's like Francsca Zappia understood everything I have felt that I couldn't explain and put them into actual words. This book was absolutely beautiful. There was very good rep of mental illness. Eliza and Wallace were so adorable. Anyone can find something that they could relate to in this story. I love this novel so much and highly highly highly recommend it.

The final was such a disappointment since the story started so good!!!

So. Many. Feels.
Automatically one of my favorite books ever!!
Francesca Zappia made the characters so real and relatable, and understands with perfection what it feels like to be part of a fandom.
The book was so well written, with many plot twists that keep you turning the pages, I could not put the book down. Hands down one of my favorite reads of the year!

Here we go, another YA fiction. I wasn't expecting anything when I went into this book. I was not exactly that hyped. I didn't think "Made You Up" was that great either. It was poorly researched and I did not think the relationship between Miles and the girl ( I forgot her name already...but she was a much better protagonist than Eliza) was that great. Call me old, I don't think YA is for me anymore.
As I have read "Made You Up", I obviously ended up comparing the character descriptions, writing, the relationships and even the amount of research put into the writing between the two. And I have to admit, I liked the book more than I liked "Made You Up". I don't even know if I liked it own it's own......................................................WAIT I DO KNOW, I DIDN'T :)))))))
The main character was so bland. So bland. While reading about her, I could actually taste a coffee gone cold. I liked her drawings. I liked her family, I did not like her. Maybe at times, but not on a whole. Throughout the novel, I hated the way she acted with her family, mostly her siblings. Maybe I really couldn't understand her feelings and her attachment to her work. If so, I'm sorry, Eliza. But other times I just felt like she was being a douche.
Also, I dunno whether it's just me, mostly it's just me, I am not a fan of these romances. (By these, I mean "Francesca Zappia's fictional character's relationships") I can see why other people might be for it, but I am just not. I thought Wallace, just like Eliza, was annoying. I also noticed a lot of similarities in the general backgrounds of the characters in this novel and that of "Made You Up". The author tried to show why Wallace sort of ended up by the way he is by telling his story, but I really didn't care.
I felt like though the author tried her best, these characters just came off really dry. I couldn't get attached to any of them even if I tried.
Overall, the writing, was not bad but not so great either.
The characters seemed to grow by what seemed to be the size of a bean, also in one chapters (OKAY I'M EXAGGERATING, THREE CHAPTERS!) As someone who has anxiety, I could understand her struggle, but for the sake of the book, I wanted to slap Eliza at some point. SORRY.
P.S. Will add more once I actually get my brains back to life to think more. Thanks for reading.

When you have two close friends who tend too have different tastes in books but both of them rate a book 5 stars. You read that book. This is the kind of book that sucks you in right away and keeps you there. I truely loved it.
Eliza draws an online graphic novel. A very popular one. When she is online with her fans and her friends, she is LadyConstellation. When she is with the bodies around her, she is invisible. When one of her online fans moves to her school, she finds it harder and harder to be one or the other. Recommend this one to my sister!
