"Live in these books for a while, learn from them what seems to be worth learning, but above all love them."
inspiring fast-paced

i wish i knew this sooner, love it.

some of the best reflections on solitude i have ever read

This book has become one of the most important works of art in my life. Rilke took my hand during a very difficult season of life and transition and showed me that everything was going to be okay. He shows that being a human is difficult, and "...love too is good, being difficult." He taught me to orient myself around growth, and that it's okay to be complicated. He exhibits a deep understanding of the process of actualization and growing self-knowledge and self-acceptance. I would recommend this book to everyone. Every person should read it at least once.

This book is only about 50 pages in length when you take out the introduction and additional scholarly material, but it took me about week and a half to read it. The book is fantastic, beautiful, and insightful, but I feel that this translation made a living piece of art into a museum piece. I desperately want to read it again in a new translation; perhaps then I will be able to fully absorb Rilke’s ideas.

Even with all of that being said, the book is brilliant and inspiring. It has affected how I view solitude and patience in life. Thanks, Ray!

i definitely grabbed some great quotes to use as inspiration, and i find the concept of these letters being exchanged between mentor and mentee and the documented travels seen in the headings so interesting. i felt that this book didnt really hook me though, it wasnt bad but overall it wasn't too interesting.
