I am not a big reader, I have always been more of a gamer, so the thought of picking up a book instead of a controller had never entered my mind. My wife is a big reader and I thought I would give it a go so we could have another shared interest and hobby. So, I took the plunge and purchased a copy of Stephen King's I.T. at a whopping 1067 pages which was incredibly daunting and whilst I enjoyed it, it took me over a year to read. I had it in my head that I wanted to really get into Stephen King books, I was not familiar with his writing style, so I think I just did not understand it at times.

Jump ahead to my second King book, Pet Sematary. What a difference this book was, I absolutely loved it. Every page, every second, every twist and turn, I was completely hooked. Whilst it may not be a huge deal for some, I finished this book in 4 days just spending about 1-2 hours a night. Sleep be damned I would have sat and finished the whole thing in one go if I could.

I had seen an unhighlighted spoiler on a Good Reads review regarding a particular major event, but because this book is so good, and written so well, it did not spoil a thing for me. Each new twist and turn in the road were creepy and exciting and what I had imagined was classic King, at his best. This book had hooked me, I am now actively collecting Stephen King hard covers, I have about twenty now and I am working my way through them and so far, this is 100% my favourite Stephen King book.

I loved it so much; I am trying to convince my wife to read this for Halloween. It is not scary in my opinion, it has creepiness to it giving the themes and the locations, but it’s more than just that. For me, this book is about life, loss, and family. When I see questions online asking where people should start with Stephen King, I see Misery, Salems Lot, Carrie quite often but, I would say pick Pet Sematary, you will not regret it. 5/5 book.

(Apologies for the length and not the greatest review, this is my first time doing one and i have kept it completely spoiler free, but I thought I would give it a go)

Fun like most Stephen King books. More heartbreaking than spooky. I would have done the same thing.

Definitely an interesting concept for a book! I did enjoy reading it. However the downfall to this book is that it felt far to slow at the beginning and only got interesting towards the end (I would’ve rated it 5 stars if it wasn’t for that).

Nonetheless, I did like this book, but not my favourite book by King. I would definitely rate it 4 stars though as towards the end I really began to find the book more gripping. The ending of the book makes me wish there was a second book, it just felt as if there could be way more to the story after that point. It was frustrating as I felt as if I was left on a sort of cliff hanger. I just want to know what happened to all the characters after that ending!

What I’d like to remember about reading this book was listening to it alone in the house, getting chills over and over and over, and shrieking repeatedly at the scary parts, then laughing because I was impressed at the spookiness. So, so good.
