A wild read. Poetic and stunning, truly detestable characters with occasionally frustrating slowness, but all in all I loved its bizarre, horrific weirdness.
I really enjoyed the descriptions of the castle and surrounds for the first 100 pages or so, but I became dismayed at every female character being described as stupid, and then my annoyance increased with the caricatured characters overall. I stopped about halfway through the book.

I absolutely adored this book. I can’t say enough positive things about Simon Vance’s narration, and I was absolutely captivated by every character. If you read these books, I HIGHLY recommend finding a version with Peake’s illustrations, or looking them up online. He’s as good at capturing the essence of a person with a few pen strokes as he is with words.

Titus Groan drew me in with the gothic setting of dust and decay, and the bizarre but highly distinct characters. It builds up the tension of the story layer by layer, frequently moving the focus around between different characters and their struggles. I plan to keep reading the series.
This was a bit of a slog. I think the most I read in one day was 12-15 pages. Yet, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Different, but good different.

basically my favorite kind of book, weirdly challenging but extremely enticing at every moment, weird and intentional prose.
the events of this book are enthralling and the way peake chooses from describe this world is simply delectable.
favorite scene might be a wildly vivid description of a scene as lensed by a rain drop
