It's a world that could have been dreamt up by a sleeping god, or Zhuang Zi who dreams he is a butterfly or butterfly dreaming its Zhuang Zi. A prettily crafted glass ball with neurotic kafkaesque marionettes that I want to smash and burn to a crisp because existing inside it is absolutely unbearable. I am unsure if that was the intention or the author was just putting All The Vibes to paper, but man.
Points for making me feel things, no points for making these feelings being primarily something between rage and boredom. Reminds me of being in high school – both from the feel some texts used to elicit at the time, and the boredom/rage combination. Mission accomplished?

It's basically a sitcom in a gothic castle. The language is brilliant, it flows and is very evocative. That said, there's no plot or character development, it's just a few clashes of large and absurd personalities. I prefer books, especially fantasy books, to have something to say but this does not leave its readers with any lasting impression, just a few mild chuckles.

Weird book for me because I can appreciate that it's wonderfully written and charmingly bizarre and that's appealing to a lot of people, but I just couldn't get into it. Glad I gave it a shot, but it's not for me. DNF at 38%.
I see the importance of this novel, but it was dense to the point of boring me.
