I'm torn on how I feel - on the one hand the banter was fun and I enjoyed the relationship between the FMC and MMC. On the other hand the FMC is a total "not like the other girls" cause she used to be fat but then she got hot but she's also a super genius and she is completely unflappable and just rolls with everything. There were parts of the sex that were sexy and then there were other parts that gave me the ick because they never really had a consent convo and he was still treating her like his "captive". The MMC himself made no sense, the begrudging mafia boss who somehow rose to the top even though he doesn't seem to have the stomach for it? And look, I don't require that the plot make a ton of sense but the plot was absolutely off the rails and she kept tossing in a PLOT TWIST to keep you off balance so you wouldn't pay attention to how insane it all is. But for me, neither the plot or the spice was interesting enough and it was just the banter that kept me feeling like I was having a good time and got me to finish it.

I don't know if I've ever felt so drastically different about a first book in a series and a second because while I was bored for most of the previous book, I adored this book! I had high hopes for Sloane's book since we met her in the first... and she and Declan were just fantastic together. I love a fierce, strong, capable woman.

This book was full of great banter. The way Sloane and Declan vollied back and forth was some of my favorite. I can't get enough of this kind of relationship communication when it's done well, and it was. I was holding in laughs and chuckling to myself throughout the entire book.

I liked how both Decaln and Sloane were so shaped by their pasts, so tough, but then let themselves be so vulnerable with each other.

I loved Declan's begrudging admiration and attraction to Sloane. Especially this line after she's charmed both Kieran and Spider: "You're strange. And powerful. And aggravating beyond belief. I can't decide if I should muzzle you for the remainder of your stay or unleash you on my enemies - I think you'd have them all eating out of your hand within an afternoon." And the way it was him always pursuing her... relentless, but bearing his heart at the same time. The way they talked about their feelings for each other - the descriptions and metaphors they used - were great. Sloane talking about the Grand Canyon and then Declan saying it was the best thing anyone had ever said to him... 🥹

I also loved the way Sloane really bonded with and cared about the other guys working under Declan. The scene where she

threatens to/almost cuts off her own pinky because she was as much at fault at them for pulling them away tobplay poker

. And the scene at the hospital where she

gives Kieran a hug

. 🤗 As Declan says early on - after the massage and her asking if he was ok- when he realizes he has a problem, she was just "kind" and cared about people.

Eek, that epilogue, tho! I get it, but c'mon Kage!

Enjoyed the dialogue between the fmc and mmc. Sloane could be one of my favourite fmc's in non fantasy romance. Especially her ability to charm the other members.

The banter between Sloane and Declan was fantastic. And the audiobook duet is perfection!! This was a super easy read, gotta love those mafia men. My only irritation was that Sloane basically forgot about Natalie for 90% of the book. It's a small critique but I felt like it wasn't in their characters, they should have had more page time being concerned about each other. The age gap, grumpy and forced proximity troupes were so good! I love how this author doesn't go for the easy third act breakup or miscommunication for the climax.

This is the second in the series and probably the one I enjoyed the most so far. Once again, you kind of need to suspend your belief in reality a little bit to buy into the insta-love that Declane and Sloane feel for one another, but I do appreciate an alpha male that falls at the knees of his queen.

I will read the next one but I am kind of looking forward to the fourth one, so I can see spiders story!

Pretty good though I think Kage and Nat still have my heart as favorites. I love the banter of the characters in these books and this was no different. Pretty decent sex scenes if you're into the while still having a plot line to the story.
