Not one of my favorites. I feel like the entire point of this play is the word-play. Obviously Shakespeare has a gift with language, and there were a lot of fantastic turns of phrase throughout this novel. But when all is said and done, I wanted more of a plot to ground the cleverness in. The concept of this play, that the men are going to abstain from women for a year, is poorly explored. We don't see them struggling with it in the abstract, because instantly four women come along who are perfect for them, so we understand why they would break the oath. It just doesn't feel earned.

But yeah. There was lots of word-play and some great puns, so I still had a good time reading!

3 stars. Not a favorite. Wasn’t awful or anything but I found that I didn’t really care or connect with any of the characters but there were some good moments and witty humor that kept me entertained. I never read this one before so it was great to finally get to it but meh, not one I would read again.
