A cargo ship is sailing through a storm when a wave washes a box of rubber ducks overboard. There were 10 rubber ducks in the box, and they each float in different directions. Nine rubber ducks float past different sea creatures while the last duck joins a real duck family.

Ten little rubber ducks are lost in the ocean. Each one has a different experience, running into different animals that live there. This counting book is unique in that it uses sequential order words (first, second, third, etc.)

Eric Carle tells the story of ten little rubber ducks' journey from the factory and across the ocean to a new home. The bright illustrations feature a finger paint feel with bright colors. Carle features an appropriate amount of text on each page for young children. Children will delight in the suspense created by the little ducks thrown overboard in the storm. They will also enjoy counting the ten ducks at the factory and in the ocean. They will also enjoy watching each duck encounter different animals in the ocean. Finally, they will identify with the happiness of the last little duck that finds a new flock. Children will also want to press the button at the end of the book that produces a duck sound. My only qualm with the book occurs when the ducks fall in the ocean. Nine of the ducks appear in full, but only the bottom half of the tenth duck appears, which could be confusing for some children learning to count.

Super cute and fun read. My kids loved it when I read it at Story Hour today. They loved naming all of the sea creatures and birds etc. that found the rubber ducks.

A favorite of *mine* that my kiddo puts up with. Love the illustrations and the ending. Again, this is read so many times now that it has earned a spot on my Goodreads Challenge.

My preschoolers adored this book. A box of rubber ducks falls off a cargo ship, and the waves and wind carry them to different parts of the world. I had the children dramatize with rubber ducks. I also delight in this book—Eric Carle based the book off of a true story of a capsized container of rubber ducks, which I just love. The edition I had included a button embedded in the back cover to make the ducks squeak. Again, my preschoolers couldn't get enough of this book—they nearly wore that button out!
